Hello,
I have just finished my 3rd ECT treatment .... so far, so good. Some headaches and nausea after treatment, but that is it. ECT is the *MOST* effective treatment for depression according to the research. The response rate is 80 to 90% for patients with depression or 60 to 70 for patients with treatment resistant depression. Also, ECT is as safe as many courses of treatments with convenial antidepressants and mood stablizers.
A great reference book is, "Undercurrents" by Dr. Martha Manning which speak of her battle with depression and treatment with ECT. And yes, information on the web tends to very polarized, either very positive or very negative.Jumpy
