I'm not sure if I understood the 1st question correctly, but hopefully this helps.
When You have confirmed a message you just wrote, the babblers can read it. You, however, may wonder how come you self cannot see it after posting it. The reason for this is, the babble-page YOU are looking at is the page that was on your display prior to you posting your message!
The message was posted weather you reload or not. If you wish to see your own message immediately after posting it, only then will you need to click on 'Reload'.
I think (but I haven't tried) that clicking on 'reload'-link will do that. Otherwise, you can click explorer menu View-Refresh, or hit F5 (on MS Internet explorer) to do the same.
If you can see that your fresh message is on the Babble page, you've done right.
Again, your message is posted even if you don't Reload.
Your second question -How many letters fit on a line depends on typeface, size of the window, and your display.
To avoid single words being left on a line of its own, you should not hit Enter (Or 'carriage return') at the end of each line you type. Just keep typing and let the computer will take care of line-breaks for you. Try it - keep typing 'Past the edge of the window', and see what happens.
Use 'Enter' key only where you wish to start a new paragraph. (I usually hit enter twice, to add an empty line, like I've done here).Anyway, I don't think you really have problems posting - Your message was there when I read it, so you must have done it right.
Hope this helps. If you find my post confusing, don't worry. I have a tendency to complicate things unnecessarily, and sometimes my typing is not very clear.
