Hi! I enter am entering a 12 week randomized, double-blind, Placebo-controlled clinical
study for Topamax on Thursday. This study has an optional open-label extension.
They are seeing how it works for the treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes in subjects
with Bipolar I. I, of course, am hoping to avoid the placebo. But who knows? That would just
make it longer before I finally get the Topamax. And with the way my moods are swinging right now
that would be horrible.Questions:
1. Has anyone ever be in a clinical drug study? I have to spend the first week
in a treatment center. Which I am not looking forward to. Not quite the same
as a week at a spa. lol Although, it does have a lovely pool and I am in Florida.2. If I get the Topapax, they will have me up to either 400 mg or 600 mg in one week.
Do you think I will get hit hard with the side effects? I realize that milage may vary
but that seems awfully fast. No wonder they want me
where they can keep an eye on me.3. One last question, is Topamax working for bipolar I? They will also have me on lorazapam and chloral hydrate as needed
for the first 14 days.Any feedback or support you can give would be much appreciated. I have been off all meds for over 3 years and am a mess.
And I have no insurance which is one of the reasons this could be a
godsend. I could receive free meds for over two years. But no other compensation.
Thanks for listening,
WelshKat
