Hey Y'all -Just got back from Hospital stay #4...and I'm happy to stay it just might be my last visit :-)
I think they're finally on the right track with my med combo and I KNOW I'm with the right doc now.I was diagnosed with ADD & Depression for years, but someone had the bright idea that I might be BiPolar & started trying me on the mood stabilzers earlier this year.
Of course, the WORST thing you can do for a woman in a deep funk with a low self esteem is put 30 more pounds on her...right? And that's exactly what Lithium did for me. Then there was Depakote & Neurotin. I had taken so many combination of anti-depressants/anti-seizures/mood stabilizer drugs by this time, I had already written myself off & (ashamed to admit this now), but I took a handfull of my Ambien one day to end it all chaos. Greatfully, my husband saw me.
But that was then...this is now.
I am currently taking Topamax, and starting to believe that may be I am Bipolar! I have had no manic nor depressed episodes. Thanks to my high drug tolerance, I went from 50 mg - 250 mg in 2 weeks with no problems while in the hospital. However, since I've been home for 4 days I've developed HORRIBLE pain in my knees as well as abdominal cramps resembling something menstrual.I've been surfing the web tonight & have read a few articles on Topamax and "Joint Pain," but nobody elaborates. All anyone really talks about as far as side effects go are weight loss & kidney stones.
There's obviously more going on with this drug, right?
I've still got another week before I see the M.D. Was hoping someone with or without a degree has experienced this & may have a tip or two on..
(1) - If this pain is going to last
(2) - If the dosage may need to be pushed up or down to get through the painSure would hate to give it up since it seems to be helping my mood swings.
Thanks -
