> My 11 year old brother was given ativan simutaneously while being weened off of paxil. My family and I were all expecting him to act calm and feel less anxious. However, the ativan did the opposite. It made my brother act soo angry, mad, he was screaming and swearing...(and he NEVER swears!)... so i asked a friend who is a mental health nurse. She said that sometimes people have opposite or advers effects to ativaan and it makes them do thing out of the ordinary and scary. Has anyone heard of this, or had it happen to themself?? thanks-- MARIE

I dont think thats all that uncommon with the benzodiapines. Stimulating GABA with Ativan does calm people down but I think it can unbalance other important chemicals involved in regulating mood in the brain-serotonin, noradrenaline and/or dopamine. You have to be careful. Good luck.
