Hello Rog,
the obsessive thoughts are actually the LAST thing that leaves after I have started to take meds. Initially, I would feel some anxiety (partially from the meds and partially from me)and I would wait and wait and wait. For me the meds always take a long time to kick in (like 6-8 weeks) so I have to tolerate these obsessive thoughts until the very end.
With me the obsessive thoughts have always been about something horrible happening to me (healthwise) or my family. So...until the depression is actually lifted the obsessive thoughts do NOT go away. But...they do go away eventually, with time and medication. Now I can function like any "normal" person who has a cough or cold - I think it's only a cold intsead of AIDS and I forget about it instead of obsessing about it 25 hours a day.
Don't give up...the thoughts should go away but be patient.
the only other SSRI I have tried was Prozac when it first came out and when I initially started it I felt even MORE anxious but that eventually went away. I would still be on Prozac except that it made me VERY sleepy and I would have to nap in the afternoon and then go to bed at 9:00 pm!!!Joelle
> hi Joelle, I am read your post about the effexor helping with the obsessive thoughts, and i am wondering if you noticed the effects with in a few days, or if you actually felt some initial anxiety when you first started? and have you tried any other ssri's ? I am asking all these questions because I have obsessive thoughts that i cant get out of and all of the ssri's make them worse, i am thinking about trying effexor xr. any input will be greatly appriciated!thanks, rog
