> NilaMy now 13 year old son was diagnosed with BPD about 1 and 1/2 years ago after a severe manic episode from his ritilin being increased too high (he had been misdiagnosed with ADHD, OCD, ODD and depression incorrectly for 7 years prior)(He was also on Prozak). His pshyc MD put him on Depakote and what a difference. We went about 8 months with improvement. Problem is that we changed MD's as he is in a treatment center supposedly for children in which they require him to see their Doc. The mans about 100 years old and won't recognise his BP (keeps writting ADHD on everything). Because of this he won't increase the Depakote. While weight gain is an issue (watch what you eat and how much you excerise) I can tell he needs an increase in dosage. Of course he's got hormone things going on due to his age so this is not helping the BP. We (I) also just recently tapered him off of Prozak (one week now) and am tappering him off Ritilin, so there are problems with this. But yeah, Depakote worked for him. Does anyone know what withdrawal symptoms are associated with going off of Prozak and Ritilin? Everything I've read and heard indicates a BP indiv should not be on either of these, but rather a mood stabilizer, like depakote (he takes 500mg twice dly and clonidine .1mg twice dly) . He hasn't been sick but has an increase in uncontrollable actions (dangerous ones-he hit me in the head with a folding chair last night). I think it's due to the stopping of Prozak and am concerned that maybe he really needs this drug (but he's not depressed at all), but then it could just be a withdrawal symptom and we need to wait it out. I'm so confused about his meds and his doc is really bad(he's retiring soon and we will have a new one-thank god).
