When I had my pre-employment drug screening the had me sign the consent, and write down all medications I was currently taking, including xanax. I never even showed them a prescription! No one ever said a thing...probably because my results matched up with my med list. They can only ask you to produce legal documentation from your MD that you are on xanax. I'm pretty sure that it is illegal under the ADA (American's with Disabilities Act) to deny you employment due to this. They may, however, limit your employment to non-hazardous duties. They know that xanax can cause drowsiness, so you probably won't be assigned to drive a forklift on a 3 ft wide rope bride over a waterfall. You get what I mean.
Just to ease your mind...I had to be a witness in court with 5 other "health professionals". We were locked in a sound proof room. When they told me I'd be up in 30 min, I took xanax. Everyone else saw what I did, and pulled theirs out and took some too!!! The baliff did wonder what was so funny when he came to get the next person.
This isn't to belittle the need for xanax. I do feel it is very overprescribed, but regardless, fear not! This little story was to ease your fears! You'll be fine. Jennifer

With a letter from the physician that it is medically necessary, will that negate the positive for benzodiazipines? Will it help or hinder?
