Does anybody know these Pdocs?

Posted by MHK on March 21, 2000, at 15:21:57

After a year of trying to "go it on my own" following my first attempt at treating my long-term dysthymia (combined with recurring depressive episodes) with medication, I've decided it's time to get back on track and try again.

However, my insurance coverage has changed and the Pdoc I was originally using (Dr. Frank Pieri - Chicago) is no longer an option for me. By the way, I didn't *not* like him, but I don't think we had enough time together for me to really form a solid opinion.

I have just been recommended to two Chicago Pdocs who are on my new plan and I was wondering if any of you have either heard of them or, preferably, have been treated by them and would be willing to share your thoughts and opinions.

They are:

Emily M. Hoag, M.D.
Suzanne K. Cooperman, M.D.

I've been in psychotherapy for almost 10 years and I am finally convinced (for the moment, at least) that I'm not going to get better without medication, no matter how much I try. Because resistance to taking medication is a major issue for me, I really feel that it is important for me to get together with a Pdoc who is knowledgeable and up-to-date in psychopharmacology and isn't just a glorified Prozac dispenser. [Although the idea does bring to mind a cool "Pez"-like image!]

I'd be grateful for any info you can offer.

Thanks!

Heidi
