Hi. Well that was 2 days ago and I wanted to fill you in on what has happened since. After I wrote that, I was in a terrible state. I came down with that weird flu-like feeling but I know it wasn't viral. It was from the 75mg. It pretty much got worse all night and I couldnt stop vomiting. No sleep, etc. Anyway, second day, bit better. I wish I could cut down the dose though. I feel way too "high". Since all I have is capsules it's hard to separate these into smaller doses, so next prescription I might possibly ask for smaller dosage if it's available?
I feel a little better today and there's been no vomiting but still I havent eaten except for fluids and still feel sick every now and then. However, it's quite scary how quickly I have adjusted to this. I'm starting to feel a lot more positive now, but I'd just like to lose the sick feeling and be able to eat something! :) Any suggestions?
btw; thanks for replies, they were very uplifting.
kind regards

It works similar to the SSRI antidepressants like Prozac and Paxil, but the manufacturer says it also works on another neurotransmitter called norepinephrine as well as on serotonin. This should theoretically make Effexor similar in activity to the tricyclic (TCA) antidepressants. But neurotransmitter binding studies have shown that Effexor does not bind to the norepinephrine reuptake receptor that strongly, so you could consider this antidepressant to be similar to the SSRIs in action.

I recommend that you tough it out for the three weeks and see if the side effects lessen. If they don't, you may have to switch, but if they do you may be able to live a more productive life with your social phbia under control. Give it a shot and good luck. - Cam W.
