TCA's are still the gold standard that all AD's are measured against (~70% of depressives will improve on TCA's) "Dirty" means that TCA's effect many systems and not just mood neurochems. The newer AD's tend to be specific or selective in their action so they (hopefully) have fewer side effects. But as mood is a multi faceted animal that we are just understanding often "dirty" meds
work better in some cases...hince poly drug thearpy for resistant depression.Can't comment on lofepramine
