If you're already taking it five mornings a week, why not the other two? Maybe a smaller dose (e.g., 0.5 mg) will erase the edge on weekends.
You didn't say what kind of anxiety you have. If it is Generalized Anxiety, and the thought of depedence bothers you (and I don't know why it necessarily should -- is dependence a worse situation than letting anxiety force you to stay home?), then maybe you can try starting BuSpar -- or perhaps an antidepressant with anti-anxiety qualities. Then begin weaning off the Ativan GRADUALLY, preferably under a doctor's supervision. BuSpar can take 3-6 weeks to kick in, but once it does it is extremely helpful for many people with Generalized Anxiety, and it does not cause dependence or addiction.

> I have been taking ativan (sp?) for about 4 weeks...usually I take it in the morning, before work, 1 mg. It really does help with my anxiety level...now I am feeling that I may have developed some sort of dependence...I havent been taking it on the weekends, as I can usually modify my behavior depending on my level of anxiety (staying home as opposed to leaving the house..). I am now having really aweful headaches and expereincing very intense anxiety....more intense than before starting the ativan...on the days when I DONT take it.....so...what should I do?
