'tis the season to feel blue and despondent

Posted by Maxime on December 13, 2010, at 6:55:51

I hope I can post this here. I thought that since the holiday season is hard for so many of us that we could have a thread to post funny jokes etc. about the Christmas season. Or maybe even posts about why the season is so hard for us. But maybe that should be a thread of its own.

Someone sent me this yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbejNNCTr7k

It's the Twelve Days of Christmas Irish Style. It made me laugh which is something I haven't done is a very very very long time.

My wife said she couldn't/wouldn't do another Christmas.

I'm not sure what it is that bugs her?

She has to cook the wretched food?

Probably the repeated painful and pointless interpersonal.

So we are off to a non Christian country until it's all over.

My favourite Christmas was spent on the ferry between Malaga and I don't remember, between Morocco and Spain, a long way away from here.

I can remember taking a meprobamate, which is delightfully retro. Must have been OTC in Morocco.

lol

I have family coming for Christmas and so will be cooking food, hopefully tasty. I refuse to cook traditional xmas meals any more. This year I might go for an Italian-style meal or perhaps Indian.
Shake up the taste buds.

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

'In honor of this holy season' Saint Peter said, 'You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.'

The man from Nova Scotia fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. 'It represents a candle', he said.

'You may pass through the pearly gates' Saint Peter said.

The man from Saskatchewan reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, 'They're bells.'

Saint Peter said 'You may pass through the pearly gates'.

The Newfoundlander started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, 'And just what do those symbolize?'

The Newfie replied, 'These are Carols.'

Well, anyway, my wife and I were walking along with a Japanese speaker and another Japanese man we passed said 'Why are you talking to these zombies?'

And I spent a lot of time wondering if he was talking to me or the Japanese speaker.

Then it made sense to me, but (as one of the zombies) I could not think of a very good reply.

That's when the Japanese speaker said to me 'Pay no attention to him. He's drunk.'

And I thought 'No, no. He makes a good point. Surely.....'

Not in the best tradition of Japanese politeness though.

I'm sorry this happened to you and your wife, Sig. That was very disrespectful. :(

What is it about alcohol that brings out the nasties in some people?
I hope this unpleasant incident didn't ruin your day in the land of the rising sun.

Well, I hope the food is good. Have some delicious roe and hamachi for me.

It was odd. His English was unaccented (perfect English), and this was the disorienting thing which made me feel he was asking me why I was talking to these zombies. Later my wife said she felt the same. So, when I figured he must have been directing the question at the Japanese speaker, I didn't take it personally at all, because I thought he was making a point about the politics of the West and I felt I was in agreement with him. But I never got a chance to work all that through.

It may have been as it first appeared....that he was addressing me and asking me why I was talking to these Japanese zombies.

Or, he may have been a Zen monk with an alcohol problem.
If we are all asleep, as Buddhists believe.....

Copy and paste the link below in your browser.
When it asks for your name, just put in your first name. Watch it all and you'll find out why. Make sure you have the sound on.
