Anyone want to be my diet buddy?

Posted by Deneb on June 3, 2006, at 19:54:42

I'm fat. I want to lose 17 pounds. I haven't been very successful. Instead of losing weight I've gained nearly 2 pounds.

Anyone out there who wants to be my diet buddy? We can Babblemail each other everyday and keep each other on track.

I like counting calories. We can send each other our daily calorie counts.

I am totally mystified. There has been a nagging in my head, since I read this post.

You can change weight by five pounds in a day, just from water balance. Professional football players can lose twenty pounds in 3 hours.

I also wonder how you came to the number 17. Would 16 not do? Not do what?

> Anyone out there who wants to be my diet buddy? We can Babblemail each other everyday and keep each other on track.

On track? Again, with the water balance thing, and other similar variables, daily monitoring is perhaps excessive?

That's doable, counting calories in. But I don't have any idea how you'd count calories out.

Whoa! That's gotta be unhealthy.

I'm technically not overweight, but I'm sure I'm overfat. I want to be 100 pounds or less, that is why I picked 17. I think I'll look much better at that weight.

> On track? Again, with the water balance thing, and other similar variables, daily monitoring is perhaps excessive?

I won't weight myself everyday. I think weekly will do.

There are plenty of tools out that that let you estimate the calories you burn. I'm estimating I burn about 1400 calories a day. I'm not too active.

I'm going to try my hardest to eat 1000 calories or less a day. I really want to be thin, quickly.

Not if it's temporary. They drink it back, afterwards.

Overfat? Getting into physical shape might mean gaining weight. Muscle is denser than fat.

> I want to be 100 pounds or less, that is why I picked 17.

What is the significance of that number, 100? What if you lost a little weight, and then reassessed? How do you know that target is a good target?

You were talking about daily monitoring, I thought.

Inactivity is a health risk.

Quick weight loss is very unhealthy. Why the rush?

I know muscle is denser than fat and I know I should do some strength training but it's all very intimidating. I know losing weight will cause the loss of both fat and muscle without strength training, but I don't care as long as I will be thin. (Yes, I have some problems, I'm fully aware.)

> What is the significance of that number, 100? What if you lost a little weight, and then reassessed? How do you know that target is a good target?

I don't. 100 might still be too fat for me. (Yes I have some body image issues, again, fully aware) I also have problems with purging. I'm on it, getting some help from pdoc.

> Inactivity is a health risk.

Yes I know. I'm trying to walk a few km a day. I can't run...get too out of breath.

> Quick weight loss is very unhealthy. Why the rush?

I want to be thin as soon as possible. I can't stand the fat body I'm in right now.

It's okay.

I let go of all my issues with weight for the trip.

It was nice.

But now I'm back to hating my body.

I eat too much

I'll never lose weight at this rate. :-(

Today I had a Lean Cuisine, 138g milk, 15 saltines, 2 chocolate cookies, 5 Social tea biscuits and 443g mango! Two mangoes! It was so good I had another one.

I've eaten 1156 calories already and I haven't even had dinner yet. :-(

hi Deneb*
How are you doing?
come say hi to me sometime :)

I have been struggling with my diet too. I finally feel like eating again, and I have to try hard to eat healthy foods, rather than whatever my mouth is telling me to eat.

Fresh fruits and veggies might be more satisfying than saltines & cookies?

maybe you need more protein?

I have had pretty bad stuff today

coffee
a cookie
cake
iced tea
yogurt
bowl of cereal

(see, I need more protein and fresh fruits & veggies too) I just got back from the store, though. I got some apples and carrots. and some yogurt, and some sorbet. and some... skim milk, and 3 boxes of cereal. fibrous cereal.

okay deneb, I won't support you losing weight, but if you want to eat healthier, or exercise regularly, that's cool.
-ll
p.s. you had some stress today. I guess cookies are in order ;)

Okay :-) I will try to remember. Being social doesn't come naturally to me.

> I have been struggling with my diet too. I finally feel like eating again, and I have to try hard to eat healthy foods, rather than whatever my mouth is telling me to eat.

I'm glad you're eating again. :-) You need food for energy.

I have to learn to like healthy foods. I grew up with way too much junk food.

> Fresh fruits and veggies might be more satisfying than saltines & cookies?

No way...aren't saltines and cookies staple foods? ;-)

> maybe you need more protein?

People from a diet support group also say I need more protein. I need more protein and fibre.

> I have had pretty bad stuff today

The yogurt and cereal sound healthy. :-) The iced tea and coffee are acceptable.

Was the cake and cookie good? I think it's okay to have a treat once in a while.

> (see, I need more protein and fresh fruits & veggies too) I just got back from the store, though. I got some apples and carrots. and some yogurt, and some sorbet. and some... skim milk, and 3 boxes of cereal. fibrous cereal.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing! I should go to the store too. I should cook more, but I'm too lazy.

> okay deneb, I won't support you losing weight, but if you want to eat healthier, or exercise regularly, that's cool.

Okay, fair enough. I should take the advice I dish out and I hope you do the same. :-) I need to exercise more. I should go walking. I need to come up with a schedule.

> p.s. you had some stress today. I guess cookies are in order ;)
