Dr Bob and our perceptions of him.

Posted by Meri-Tuuli on March 30, 2006, at 7:43:09

Hey everyone.

I was wondering what people's perceptions of Dr Bob were.

I have never even thought to 'personalise' him like in some posts I have read. I am totally unaware of him.

To me, he is just the 'webmaster' of this site - he just makes sure everything runs okay and owns the site etc . I can't say I've ever really given him much thought. I guess he gets from us the fact that he can publish stuff on how helpful the internet is to put patients into contact with one another for mutal support and help.

I think the real stars on this board are the posters. Which I suppose is the whole point.

What do other people think?

He's got alot of power. I don't. (nm) » Meri-Tuuli

In what sense? Power over what? What makes you say you don't have any power?

(BTW, I hope this thread doesn't break any of the civilitiy rules - I assume it is okay to discuss as he is in the unqiue position of being the 'owner' of this site. I wouldn't dream of starting a thread like this about anyone else.)

~i think he is an average person that has a keen interest in mental illness, etc.. i think he tries to be fair but just like us, screws up every now and then. he did over turn Larry's block from awhile back so that's a sign. i think he *must* have a certain distance w/ us for his own well being. that being said~Mr.Bob, you really should consider deleting that post...there is no education, support, etc. at all.

Hi!

I didn't realise that Lar was blocked....I'm so blind!

Well, Dr Bob is a pdoc at a uni in Chicargo isn't he?

If it were me, I would find it really hard to stop myself from jumping in and offering advice....but it is extremly important that he keeps his distance, otherwise this site wouldn't work!!!

I wonder if there are any people here who are treated by him in real life? That would be weird!! LOL!

power to block
power to delete or not

i think those are biggies for people...

other things too.

power to change the faq's (to bring them into line with current rules for instance)

power to get a board (ie self esteem) up and running or not...

small boards too...

i think being a deputy is all about being able to read bob's mind and do what he would do were he here.

i mean... if they exercise some independence from that then their decision just gets reversed

(kudos to auntiemel again i really do think it DOES make a difference)

i used to not really give a sh*t.
kinda wondered what all the fuss was about
with someone who doesn't exactly say very much etc.
then i guess over time... following admin threads especially... finding many / most of the blocks i agreed with (though not necessarily the length of them)
and how he handles things in general.
i mean yeah not exactly proper sentances...
but i think he handles himself pretty well.
far better than another moderator who can be fairly reactive (in my perception i appreciate i'm talking about my perception here)

so over time i guess i got to feeling more attached.

for better or worse.

mostly worse i think. i don't know :-(

Not to hurt Dr. Bob's feelings but I am more concerned with the posters here. I think about a lot of their issues during the day or how I answer one. Love Phillipa

To me, Dr. Bob has never been just the webmaster or administrator of this site. From the first time I learned of him, he's been special. I don't know what's up with that. LOL At first I had a negative transference towards him, now it's positive to the extreme. (I actually think my "negative" transference was actually a bizarre manifestation of an underlying "positive" transference reaction.) Yep, I'm weird, don't know what's up with Bob and me.

I always notice Dr. Bob. I think he is on the back of my mind every single time I post.

That was interesting Deneb.

Whats transference? I have no idea.

It just goes to show how all unique we are because we all have such different perceptions of the same person.

I'm with Phillipa. It's about the posters.

And not the moderator.

What I find strange is how I've started to really care about some of the people on this site. Even though I've never met them, it seems as though I've internalized something from them.

Maybe there is some therapeutic potential on the internet.

But just reading these boards it is obvious that people, some more than others, think about Dr. Bob a lot.
