My boyfriend won't kill the bug in the kitchen!

Posted by sleepygirl on September 17, 2005, at 22:48:54

So I see this giant "earwig" bug in the kitchen so I call to him 5 feet away to kill it!! I am supposed to be the female in this relationship after all (no stereotype there or anything), and he refuses, absolutely refuses, despite my horror and terror to kill the darn thing. He insists that I can "just do it" - and this is where he really pissed me off. OK now I know I could've just killed the darn thing, but he could've just helped me - but NOOOOOO! he refuses. I can't stand it! Mr. sleepygirl never does what Mr. sleepygirl doesn't want to. period. end of story. the rest of us however in the world have to make exceptions.....

Stealing the remote. That is is a good one. I might need to try hiding the remote from my husband for a week or so. lol.

Someone once said that the reason men love that remote control so much is because that is the only thing they CAN control.

Hey, I thought that was one of the perks of getting married. DH are the bug killers especially spiders! LOL
But lately my DH is into this Budda stuff, and he won't kill them either. He thinks it is bad karma or something.
Spiders and slugs are from below anyways, don't ya think?

the earwig bug has passed...
and so let us honor him by taking in a few moments of silent reflection on the transient, fleeting and precious nature of life

I didn't want to do it... but the pinchers, my goodness, the pinchers!!

Have you ever seen "ANNIE HALL"? Alvy Singer, played by Woody Allen, and Annie Hall, played by Diane Keaton, break up. One night, Alvy is in bed with a flaky groupie played by Shelley Duvall. It's 3 o'clock in the morning and the phone rings. It's Annie Hall, crying and begging Alvy to come over to her apartment. Alvy abandons Shelley Duvall and dutifully goes over to Annie's house. He walks in the door and asks what's the matter. Annie says, "There's a spider in the bathroom." Alvy says something like, "Are you joking? You call me over here at three in the morning because there's a bug in the bathroom??!!" He goes into the bathroom, takes one look at the spider, then rushes into another room and grabs Annie's tennis racquet. As he goes back into the bathroom to beat the living daylights out of the spider, he says, "There's a spider in there the size of a Buick."

Sorry, I may have some of the details mixed up. He might have said, "There's a cockroach in there the size of a Buick." You've got to rent the movie. Whatever you may think of Woody Allen and his personal life, some of his early movies are still the best, and that scene with the bug in the bathroom is one of the more memorable scenes from that era.

Great, great movie. My favorite scene was when he tried to cook lobsters with a date after Annie, and it had been so fun with Annie, but the new woman just didn't get his sense of humor at all, and it flopped terribly. Such a perfectly sad and funny little scene. Oh, and I loved when Annie was in California and the guy at the party was trying to flirt with her by saying "Touch my heart. With your foot". Actually all the California vs New York stuff was hilarious.

And if you loved Annie Hall, don't miss Manhattan.

Hi Tabitha,

It's good to see you. Oh, yes, I've also seen "MANHATTAN." When I first saw MANHATTAN, I liked it better than ANNIE HALL, but now, years later, I have to say that I like them both equally, but for different reasons.

How about the split-screen scenes in ANNIE HALL in which Woody Allen is talking to his psychiatrist on one side of the screen while Diane Keaton is talking with her psychiatrist on the other side of the screen:

Woody/Alvy's shrink: "How many times a week do you have intercourse?"

Woody/Alvy: "Oh, hardly ever. Only two or three times a week."

Keaton/Annie's shrink: "How many times a week do you have intercourse?"

Keaton/Annie: "All the time! Two or three times a week."

I do remember the scenes you mentioned, especially the two contrasting scenes with the lobster. They were terrific but, as you said, there is a sadness to them and to the whole movie. The first time I saw ANNIE HALL, my high school sweetheart and I were in the process of breaking up, so whenever I watch the whole movie now, I think back to that time. "Bittersweet" is the word often used by critics to describe this film, and I think that is exactly right.

The man should always kill the bug!

Delta Burke said that on Designing Women one time and it just stuck with me. Of course on the show the others were talking about much more serious stuff concerning men, but she said it with such conviction that I was like, YES! That's absolutely right!
Luckily my kitty kills the bugs for me. I give him treats for it.
