how many of us shave our legs in the winter?

Posted by anastasia56 on April 6, 2005, at 23:48:08

another personal hygiene question i need to know.

Personally, I wear pants almost constantly in the winter so i don't bother shaving those pups. Being scandanavian i have very little body hair so the hair is like an extra layer of warmth. As a bonus, at a certain point the hair just becomes kind of downy soft. And yet another bonus, after a long winter of reaping the wild hair you will have leverage for a good wax job that will last into the summer.

anyone willing to weigh in on this topic? come out of the closet, so to speak.

I shave them about once a week in winter...
(Unless someone else besides me gets to feel the prickles - in which case I shave 'em more often).

But I like them silky smooth, even just for me.
Feels nicer on the sheets.
But then it doesn't get so very cold over here...

Guilty of shaving frequently. Oh yes.

Don't ask me why but when I was still single, I would pray so hard for God to bring me a husband.

One of my promises was that " God, if you will bring me a good husband, I'll even shave my legs in the winter."

Is it complete blasphemy to make such a claim and rarely stick to it??

I have repented already.

Now, I once asked my husband if he would DARE me to grow out my "pit" hair long enough to braid it and put beads in it. HE REFUSED. He actually acted repulsed by the idea.

I, on the otherhand, thought it might add a little spice to things. I would occasionally life up my arms and there would be these long braided, hairs with all these colorful beads.

He never would go for it. So out of submission to this man, I find myself shaving the pits at least twice a week.

But one day, I might really try that braidin' and beadin' thing. LOL

I don't shave them in the summer either. I don't have much hair and it is light, and I honestly don't care. My legs are always smooth because I *don't* shave.

I shave my armpits once a year, when I'm about to go on vacation and wear a bathing suit (though I always wear a Tshirt over my bathing suit to keep me from sunburning, so I'm not sure what that's all about...). I don't wear sleeveless shirts or dresses (mostly because I don't shave) - seems like a small price to pay.

I know I'm not mainstream, but it works for me.

I shave maybe twice a month in winter. I usually wear black nylons in winter which hides all my hair.

In winter I usually can't go longer than 10 days before all that prickly hair drives me crazy. And I always shave my armpits. Wow, what kind of people never have to shave their armpits? I didn't know they existed. Am I unusually hairy??

I just remembered a country song by (can't remember who but I think Deana Carter) called, " Did I shave my legs for this?"

It was funny.

My husband actually says, he can tell if I had plans for us to be intimiate when he sees I have shaved. LOL

The poor guy gets excited when he gets in the shower and sees my razor laying around. LOL

Otherwise, he says, " I know not to even bother."

ha ha. Poor, poor man.

I always thought the sign to not bother was when those big old white cotton panties came out.

Hair removal for men...??..Yuck

You know, I don't know how to feel about this...but really I feel quite put down by advertisements that show completely hairless men as having to be 'normal'. I keep myself well groomed, but have a dark European look, a hairy chest and hair on my arms. When did it become fashionable for men not to have hair in these places? God put it there for a reason...geeez.
I know...there are always some woman who want some hair-free men, or something like that, but I have thick hair on my chest (ala' Robin Williams) and it's..just a part of me.

Perplexed...

> When did it become fashionable for men not to have hair in these places?

I know what you mean! I hate it! I think some of these men actually shave their chests. It's so unfair. I suspect it's something to do with an ideal of youthfulness - perhaps younger men have less body hair. But not all of them!

> I know...there are always some woman who want some hair-free men

Yeah, well, one man's fish is another man's poisson or whatever, but surely there are many women who like body hair on men? Or am I alone in this (blush blush)?

As for the original question... I like body hair on men, but not so much on me. So I shave my legs almost every day, even in winter, even though I almost never wear skirts or dresses. I can't defend it politically, but I do it anyway, probably because of social pressure. I'm a crap feminist!

I prefer less hair. But that is just my personal preference. Some people are less hairy, some are more. Just individual variation I guess. I am fairly hairy - but at least it means that my head hair is nice and thick.

But I like the smooth shaved feeling.

I prefer less hairy guys - but personal preference is all.

I dunno about waxing. OUCH!

well the whole hairy vs not hairy thing seems actually to lean a tad more towards more shaving than not in the winter.

hmmmm. to me this smacks of similarities to the 'if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it does it make a sound?'
i mean, if no one sees your bare legs in the winter, why do it?

some of you just like the smooth feeling on your legs. some of you have mates that like the smooth feeling on their legs. in my case, my husband can't see his hand in front of his face without his glasses so i'm pretty safe there. and since i've started menopause i try not to touch anyone so the odds are even less that he will come into actual contact with the bush squad.

thanks for all the replies. it helps in my neverending quest to determine how far to the left or right i veer from 'normal'.

There's nothing LESS sexy and appealing to me than a hairless man. I will NEVER understand it. The harrier the better in my book!

Out of interest.. how would you feel about a woman who didn't practice any form of hair removal?

In the UK press there was a big hoo har when Julia Roberts attended a premier without shaving her armpits..

Is there any difference here?

I am guilty of shaving regularly all year, mainly becuase it makes me feel more sexy when I'm with my boyfriend (I need something to increase my libido!) I wax my legs and bikini about once a month (and shave in between), but I hate having hairy legs, I can feel them rubbing on my clothes!

I have fine blonde hair on my head, but thick dark hair on my legs, I feel unlucky...

good topic.
I stopped shaving years ago.
Too many cuts just undid me.
now I like hairy legs....
when I get tickled it feels like heaven.
god I love being tickled.
