step by step the longest march...

Posted by Emme on October 30, 2003, at 12:13:06

can be won, can be won. Drops of water turn a mill... (from song by John McCutcheon).

Okay folks, after everyone being so nice to me whenver I post in freak-out or desperate mode, I figured I'd throw in a few positives to balance the score. I'm taking it hour by hour, inch by inch.

- I haven't woken up crying in the last several days.
- I haven't slid all the way to the bottom of the abyss in a couple of weeks. (Okay, a few partial trips.)
- My therapist thinks my moods are more predictable - less up and down.
- Suicidal impulses aren't gone, but they are slightly less imperative and occupy fewer hours.
- I'm able to get a little more done.
- My dishes are washed.
- My laundry is done.
- My shower curtains are clean.
- Nothing in my fridge has mold on it.
- I've played volleyball four times in the last couple of weeks.

Who knows, I might become a real person again!

Thanks Liligoth, Sabina, Mary, Susan, Dinah, Wildflower! I will try to Power On. :) Next big goal: getting bills paid and sending in medical claims for reimbursement. Much less fun than removing moldy things from the fridge...

Stay tuned for more details. And...is everyone ready for Halloween?

A little too ready. I just opened the candy. I've got about ten pounds of fun-size candy bars here. Send in the rescue crews, I'm about to OD on sugar.

You know, it just occurred to me that I'm under 5 ft tall and if I put on a costume with a mask, I could clean up!

There's a community near me that has trick-or-treating on the main street on halloween-- all the businesses stay open late and hand out candy. I used to go through and collect it, in my grown-up costume without mask, right along with the 5 yr olds. Wasn't til last year I got too ashamed. Now I hand out candy from home like a real grown-up, except I dress up too. What the heck, I love costumes and candy and creepy decorations.

I trick or treated long past the age. I used to dress up my dog and bring her with me. It's been a while since I managed to feel that same excitement, but it's fun to see my son so excited.

I admire your holiday spirit. :)

So how was it guys? Halloween is my favorite holiday hands down. Lots of fun and creativity and no emotional baggage like i have with Thanksgiving and Christmas. And lots of cute kids in animal costumes. I liked trick or treating as a kid and had costume birthday parties because I was born in late Oct. It was even better in college and grad school. I saw lots of coordinated group costumes like Stonehenge, fruit of the loom, the French Revolution, you name it. Hmmm...it's too bad most of my silliness has been gone for a long long time. And I lost my skeleton earrings. I need to get another pair.
