What is so wrong with napping?

Posted by KellyD on October 23, 2003, at 10:47:39

Trival ranting, but I love naps. I take one just about daily. I get tasks done and function before and after. I have some friends who make a big deal about it. I will return a call and the response seems to be "I guess you were rolled up in the bed, too LAZY to talk to me". AHHHHH - it burns me. It's close to the surface, as it happened, yet again, with a friend, yesterday. I blow it off, but it burns me, none the less. I'm glad I can have a great rest. There was a time rest was impossible. (I've explained that to friends, too) Now, it's great.

Am I the ONLY person who thinks a nap/rest time (even, forbid, DAILY) isn't just an awful, lazy waste of time?

But then, my mother fusses at me for the same thing, she's never taken a nap in her life and it's a waste of time!

If it's something that makes you feel good, more alert, rejuvenates you, what could *possibly* be wrong with it?

Keep nappin' :-)

Personally, I love naps. There's nothing better than curling up with a warm blanket on a cold afternoon. It's so relaxing!

Remember, there are much worse things to be addicted to...

Thank you! You know I have tried to let my friends know in that "good communicaion" way, how I felt:
The--- "When you_____, it makes me feel_____, in the future, I wish you would______". I don't know about everyone's cohort, but I get the same reaction as if I said "Ya idiot, get off me about my da*n naps, it's none of your business". Same reaction - they huff up like toads. I'm learning to respond with "I was busy" and try to smile as an inner voice finishes it saying "taking a nap".

I take naps as often as I can and find them to be wonderful.

I read old and new comments. I love it, I'm not alone in this "sinful" behavior or at least, the great enjoyment of it. I've decided my friends are jealous!

>>Hey, *I'm* jealous! I've been soooo busy the past 3 or 4 weekends, I haven't been able to sneak a nap. I feel myself getting sleepy around 2 each day on the weekends (oddly not during the week) and nothing would be nicer than sleeping a bit in the sunshine streaming in the window (I like light when I'm napping, I dunno why).

With my mother getting on my case about napping, she's one of those people who sacrifices her entire being for everyone else, so she has no life or identify of her own. And napping would be *selfish* in her eyes. Anything you do for yourself is *selfish* to her. And not in a good way. It's amazing how something like a *nap* for god's sakes can stir up so much controversy, and you're not alone. My mom constantly bitches at my dad for napping (guess I inherited it from him). It's just weird....

You like to nap? I say do it! Nurture yourself. Give yourself a treat.

And I still don't think I'll get to snooze this weekend, either. :-( Oh, well.

I hope you can find time for a nap this weekend. They are great and I am refusing to feel bad about loving them. Our society is too Go, Go, GOOOOOO.... somehow, rest, relaxation, sleep is just frowned upon. But, it's so good to know others feel the way I do, even if they don't get to put it practice as often as they would like. Thanks!

I take regular daily naps, they're wonderful. I also have people (family actually) who make rude comments about me being "lazy." It bothers me that they say this, but my naps are well worth it. I too used to have a time when resting was impossible. :) Elle

I think they are great. I'm so glad others feel the same. They are very helpful for me and I find them refreshing. I turning a deaf ear to the inapproiate comments. Nap on!
