Too many eggs in one basket..

Posted by Fi on March 13, 2002, at 16:45:31

I know I should get more to my life than work- I do a bit outside, but should do more.

One of the risks is that when work goes wrong, life does. Not a mega major problem, but I found out today that I am being moved to a different section and manager- on Monday!
My job may not change a lot, actually, but the manager is very different. I've had the best 5 working years I have ever had, and now suddenly that particular phase is over in 2 days time.

I'm lucky I'm not loosing my job (seem people are at my work, soon) At least in the next few months.

But its really shaken me up, and I've also being doing a little bit of saying goodbye to how it was.

Gave myself 'permission' to write about this to PSB as its just good to be able to tell someone (this is the first message I have typed while crying- fortunately, not actually into the keyboard!)

And as a warning to anyone else who is relying on work (or any one aspect of life) to fulfil everything.

I dont really need replies- just good to know you're there.
And I've 'dried up' -only a passing phase. Off to bed feeling better for having shared.

Ugh tell me about it. You dont have to reply on work to fulfil everything to have something like this happen and screw everything up. About 5 years ago I was on a project for a couple months and everything was going fine. Then one my manager left and they re-org'd and suddenly I was reporting to the wicked witch of the west. I had to quit it was so bad. Fortunately I was able to get another job in those two weeks after notice.

Fi,

I'm sorry this happened to you—how upsetting! I hope you're feeling better today.

Hi Fi.....

Boy can I relate. I guess I don't have any advice, but can relate.

I work in a casino in Las Vegas. Since 911 the economy has dropped.... and our casino is "cleaning house." My new manager is an incredible *&*&*... and is watching us all in a real sneaky way. She literally hides behind slot machines and whatnot.

The funny thing is..... the casino is jumpin' with business. I think a lot of places around here are just looking for an excuse to get rid of people....

Anyway..... Who knows if anyone follows this or not, but LV wouldn't renew Tyson's liscence. But Of course he got renewed in 3 other states. Who wouldn't? Can bring in millions of dollars in one fight. Las vegas claims they are making a "moral statement"..... but since when is LV moral? Just cracked me up. I may not agree he should be able to fight.... who knows..... but if he is still going to..... why not profit from it. It is sin city of course. K..... going on a tanget.

Good luck to you and I hope everything works out! Take care, Kristi

Thanks for that.

It helped me a lot to post to the list, and I've really appreciated the replies. I have had much worse bosses than my new one, and have got more sensible about it. At least this one isnt psychopathic (one I had sacked someone without a good reason while they were having major surgery...) Your sounds pretty awful too- sympathies. Its really difficult when you realise they dont have the basic moral standards you take for granted- till they were missing!

I went to Las Vegas for a couple of days years ago, as part of a month's trip to various parts of US (it was great! Liked New York and the Grand Canyon best, tho of course didnt see many places). It was a *very* strange place to be- and my friend and I caused some confusion by *walking* everywhere! We benefitted from the cheap and comfortable hotels, but found it all a bit unnerving and unreal. I won my only bet, in a slot machine next the lunch queue!

I've heard its changed a lot since then, but it certainly sounds like a place to hold something a bit morally unclear and full of showbiz.

One thing I have learned about untrustworthy bosses, by the way, is to put everything in writing or have a witness. Very tiring!

I overreacted for some reason re my situation, but now duly grateful that new boss *only* waffley, indecisive and unable to say no. There are a lot worse things!
