Overreact - update

Posted by DisTraught on March 31, 2007, at 1:42:14

Thank you for the support I've been getting. I went to see my T and had prepared a whole "lesson" in advance. I tacked "You said" slips on the wytebord and then bubbles with "I thought". I showed that what he did triggered a tremendous, almost crippling response in me. It was a brilliant session because we managed to highlight where my problems lie based on how I react. We even managed to laugh:) I have a lot to learn.

i was wondering about you just yesterday. That was a great way to handle that! Good for you! He could hardly just get mad or blame you. Awesome.

did you get the number of sessions straightened out?

one thing too.. did he own up to his part in it? It obviously wasn't a "strategy."

i am so proud of you. i don't think i could have gotten that organized about it. Give yourself a lot of credit for handling this with style and for getting a better idea of what you need to do...that is half the battle.

I'm glad it went well for you, and that you had the courage to bring it up.

I told him he didn't need to own up to anything, and that I wasn't bringing it up to criticise him, but simply show how his words acted as a catalyst which gave revealing results. I felt good about not blaming him, but being able to see how my past was reflected in how I reacted to his behaviour. But sure, there was no gain without pain:)
