5 htp

Posted by MoBe on May 29, 2005, at 11:58:27

I have tried many sleep aids, amongst them being remeron, doxylamine, benzodiazapines etc. but I have come back several times to a product called Sleep Plus which is a combination of 5 htp, passion flower and hops. Has anyone used 5 htp long term as a sleep aid and in particular, this combination and care to comment on effectiveness, drawbacks etc. Thanks.

I use 5 HTP, but even large doses don't make me sleepy, not sure why. I have used it for over two years though, with no ill effects. I use it for mild depression and anxiety. I don't know about the combo you've mentioned. When I need sleep, and am having trouble falling asleep, I use Benedryl or Valerian. I can use the Valerian for about 3 weeks, then have to alternate with the Benedryl, which works really well for me.

Good luck,
Jazzy

Thanks for your reply. I wish I could use Benedryl as I understand it has a shorter half life than doxylamine. Doxylamine works to knock me out but unfortunately it also has a half life of 10 hours.
