Hmm, not sure what "good point" refers to, but thanks for your preferred dates. I think that's fairly important to know ;-)

We've had only 11 posters vote (12 when Mel sees my post, I'm sure), not including yourself. One person said she didn't "notice the notice" on each board for a long time. I wonder if that could have been true for others? (I thought it was prominent, but that's just me)

I suppose I'm wondering what kind of response - numbers-wise - you were anticipating? Twelve seems low to me. And I'm not alone...

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20050323/msgs/476983.html

But again, I don't have enough prior experience, or a strong enough "feel" for the group/community as a whole to base anything on. I don't know quite what the "original" idea for the Babble birthday party entailed, either.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Committee, above post for you, also. Thx :-) (nm)

I had no idea what to expect! I don't think 12 would interest CNN, but I think it would plenty for a good time. :-)

It should be fun!

I think you should make another announcement banner Dr bob, a louder and brighter one :-)

2 cents:
I rather think that we've heard from those who have a preference for when the party should be already.
But a reminder of when the party is to be held and an opportunity to be included in the count would be a good thing. Like a "sign up here" notice.

I agree. There's probably no need to repeat the "pick a date" step again.

The final count for choice of dates is:

13 posters voted (including Dr Bob)

6/4 - 9
6/11 - 4 (plus one "maybe")
6/18 - 5

FYI, I can now only attend on 6/11. As it appears that probably won't be the date, maybe I should bow out of the committee now. Those committee members who are actually going, can probably plan the rest themselves - especially with quite a small group. I'd still be willing to help in any way I can, though.

Or I can stay on the committee. I just don't know if I'm comfortable having input on any decisions arranging a party I can't attend :-(

Either way, I'm fine with it.

It's up to the committee :-) but IMO, posters don't have to come to have input...

Sure. I guess I didn't mean to emphasize that part. More the idea that a small group (guessing 6-9, realistically, will actually come?) may not need a committee at all. If so, they can pretty much "be their own committee" at this point, without me, if it ends up I'm the only committee member who can't make the date selected.

As you said, anyone can still offer input. As posters have done all along :-)

I may not be the only one thinking this way, but I could not commit to coming, as far as planning purposes go. That doesn't mean I can't come, period. I can't even estimate the likelihood, yet, but who knows? Just hoping you build a little flexibility into the planning.

Honestly, I thought you definitely couldn't, from this post...

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20050219/msgs/473825.html

So, there's still hope? I think that's great. My strong impression from reading the Babble boards, is that you are someone special that other posters would very much want to be there :-)

I think it's rough planning something months out, since $$, time and circumstances can change so much for people. But, if you don't, sometimes the thing you want to do becomes too hard, if not impossible. No perfect solutions.

If I continue to have a role in this, I'll keep in mind what you said. I guess it depends exactly what the group decides to do (I have no idea), as to which parts/things can be left "open" until the last minute. I'm sure it will work out okay.

I didn't vote yet since June, in general, is hard for me. The kids get out of school June 6th, so June 4th is out for me. The 11th would be best for me, but on the fence with taking the time off work to go.

I'm in a good position with Chicago only being a long drive away for me. I was going to decide what the date was set.

Maybe wishful thinking. The idea is attractive, but the probability is not very large.

In geek speak: "The probability function does not cross the line y = 0." There is a non-zero probability that I will come. How much more than zero is very hard to say.

I doubt I'm the only one who's a maybe. Firm commitments are hard to make, for a lot of people, and they might have kept quiet rather than give a false answer.

A man who can blush and admit to doing it is a good thing.

I'm sure you're right. My own commitments in the month of June seem to keep morphing every week or so. It's frustrating. Although, I think the only question we posed was what date posters would *prefer*, out of three choices. Hopefully, the understanding was they were choosing the best weekend in the event they found they could come. So, it wouldn't have to feel like a false statement to indicate a preference...

I know folks are cautious about making definitive statements, though. Me, I just plow ahead then end up having to say, "oops, sorry," I guess.

Hopefully it'll get easier as it gets nearer. I think one idea is to post another linked banner on the boards with the chosen date, then encourage more responses to that, e.g., "Who thinks they probably/possibly/maybe/hopefully could come on this date?"

We shall keep muddling through. Thanks for your thoughts :-)

It's not *my* birthday! :-) And the evening of 6/3 has opened up. And 6/4 during the day would be OK...

Yes, it's not your birthday, but You Are the Babble-Dude! And none of us would be here - or there - without you.
I guess we could party on the day of the 4th and talk about you that evening. Everyone knows that's what happens when people leave the party...

Another board announcement of the date, asking for a count on how many might be interested.

I could do that, but how about with some idea of what the activities will be? Since that might make a difference?
