Okay, as most of you know I am a bit odd. I hate pencils other than the very fine lead mechanical kind. Much to my horror a test required a #2 pencil because you had to fill in those little tiny boxes so it could be scanned into a computer for grading.
Along with many others in the class I borrowed one from the instructor. I hate used things, too. At least it didn't have chew marks on it or I would have needed rubber gloves to touch it.
At least it was an open book test so I didn't have to panic that I was going to fail. Now, of course, I'm just worried I checked all the wrong boxes even though I looked it over three times.
Henceforth I will be armed with my own my own #2 pencil with easter baskets on it. It was either that one or the one with spiders on it and I am afraid of spiders. My husband just rolled his eyes at my pencil dilema. Some people just don't get it.

I totally understand. I'm so particular about Pens and pencils. Why can't you use the mechanical kind of Pencil with the scantrons? I always do and it comes out just fine... well maybe not just fine, but the machine reads it.
Well if you do have to use the regular type of penci, get the Ticonderosa ones. They are the best. So nice. They're the typical yellow ones, but a bit more expensive... I think

You can use mechanical pencils on Scantrons -- as long as your lead is HB. I use 2B, so I can't use my mechanical pencils...
So, being me, I take about six sharpened Ticonderoga pencils with me to all the tests...
And Poet? At least it's not the big fat kind -- remember them?

Hi Gee,
I didn't know mechanical pencils would work on a scan form. I'm going to stick with mine (using Racer's suggestion of HB lead) and see what happens.
Though I'll have my pink and green easter basket pencil with me, too.
Thank you for not thinking my being particular about pencils is strange.

Hi Pencil Expert Racer,
Does the mm matter on the HB lead? .5mm or .7mm? I think I have HB .7, am I getting obsessed by this or what?
I will have my favored mechnical pencil with me as well as my backup #2 with easter baskets on it for all classes.
Boy do I ever remember those big fat pencils. It was a big deal when you graduated to the regular size. I can never understand why they think that little kids who have small hands can grasp a big fat pencil (or crayon) easier. Maybe they figure that little kids would stick thin pencils up their noses?

The part about little hands and skinny pencils in noses, that is...

Please, I prefer High Priestess and Keeper of the Knowledge of Pencils. Or, if that's too long, Your Imperial Majesty works for me, too.

Yes, you are definitely becoming too obsessed by it. (But that's part of your charm, as far as I'm concerned.)
No, mm doesn't matter. The HB is the measurement of hardness of the "lead" in the pencil. "H" designates a hard pencil, so "2H" would be next hardest, up to wherever it tops out, about 7H, I think. The lead gets progressively harder, making it possible to hold a sharper and sharper point. "B" is softer, and it gives a darker line. I haven't actually heard of anything softer than about 4B, which is very, very soft. Much softer than that, and it would just mush onto the paper as soon as you tried to use it.
And now you know enough about pencils to be my apprentice. You may now be referred to as Her Royal Majesty.
Or, of course, just Racer's friend Poet.

I beg to inform your Majesty that 6B pencils do indeed exist within Her realm!
Your Majesty obviously had not known the full extent of the supply of pencils that Her realm produces.
Perhaps your Majesty would not like the 6B pencils.
But should there be any reason that they might be worthy of Her notice, they do exist!
Your loyal servant,
Jost

;-)
Thanks! That's great news for me, since I have a hard enough time writing hard enough with the 2Bs... I always did love playing with my MomCat's pencils. I'll have to keep an eye out for the softees now..
Thanks for the info, oh Imperial One
