I bet I still do both of those sometimes in speaking quickly, if I'm not thinking about it.

Kath yup say both of them. I have a saying from grade school of all the words I didn't say like the Yankee I was then. I drink milk on the roof of my room and I'm scared. Spelling is the same it's the accent. As roof is ruf, room is rum, scared is skared. Love Phillipa pa oh and it doesn't matter is mader.

Its way late for me and I can't think of any I say wrong, although I'm sure they are numerous! I'll try tomorrow.
But a personal pet peeve of mine is when people say 'pacific' instead of 'specific'. However, overall I find people who correct other people's language way more annoying than a word being mispronounced! I have some cousins who do that and I just want to smack them! I'm grown, I'll say it however I want!!!!

Jeezey Louisey, I wouldn't dream of correcting anyone!! I might say to my daughter or husband or son, "Honey, I think that's pronounced ...such & such." OR "Hun, do you mean 'specific'? but I would only do that if I thought they might embarrass themself by saying something REALLY wrong."
Recently my daughter, who is VERY well-versed in words (our whole family loves words, so it's unusual for someone to mispronounce them) anyway, my daughter pronounced Thames (as in the river) the way it looks: thames instead of "tems"!!! I was astonished that she didn't know how to pronounce it!!! She was amazed also & we both had a laff.

It bugs me when announcers on the radio say:
for kilometer "Kill AH meh ter"
if they say that, they should say for centimeter:
"Sen TAWH meh ter" A pet peeve of mine.
Something I find strange is when people pronounce "ing" at the end of a word as "een"
Maybe it is a local 'dialect' - I'd be interested in knowing from where.
As in:
I went boating
I went boateen

When I took a voice and diction class in college I found out southerners are worst about the long 'I'. I just could not say it right no matter how hard I tried. In fact, listening to myself on a tape recorder, I sounded like such a hick! I was like, OMG, do I really sound like that????
Oh, another thing I learned in voice and diction class, its pro-nun-ciation rather than pro-nounce- ciation. Now I always say it the correct way and everyone looks at me funny.

People always sound so funny trying to do a southern accent. Its usually WAY over done.

East and West TX have way more of a twang and sound very similar to me (but probably not to them!). Then Houston strangely seems to have less of a twang than everywhere else. Maybe because its so big. Dallas is somewhere between all of them. Then other states, like NC, has a completely different accent altogether! Not to mention, Georgia, Kentucky, and so on.

Isn't that interesting that if you hear yourself, you notice different things?
When I hear myself, my voice sounds way higher pitched & sorta 'thin' or something.
My 31-yr-old daughter & I apparently sound identical!
Once she answered the phone & my husband was carrying on a conversation with her, only after a bit realizing it was her, not me.
Also, once a good friend was on the phone & daughter & I did an experiment with her, where one or other of us would be on phone & she'd say who it was. She was mostly wrong.
One time, on the way back to Ontario from Nova Scotia, she had a little hand-held tape recorder & we took turns talking on it then listened & ever WE couldn't tell which voice was whose!
That's interesting about so many accents in Texas!! My friend is going to Texas to visit her sister on Friday - Austen.

Austin rocks! I believe I mentioned before their motto is "Keep Austin Weird". At least its on a bunch of bumper stickers anyway, I don't know what really qualifies as a motto. Its really pretty around there too. Too bad its too cold to go tubing, that's the best!

I'm from the Northeast. Many people here for some reason just drop the g off of many words: talkin', walkin', and my favorite partyin'.LOL Actually, these days my meds are all the partyin' I can handle! HUGS

Here's something I found written about it that describes it well:------------------------
Tubing on the Guadalupe is a quintessential Texas experience. In fact, if you're young and outrageous, or a little white trashy, or BOTH, there isn't a single thing to do in the ENTIRE STATE that is quite as unique and pleasurable.
There is nothing quite like laying back across a giant tractor-tire inner tube and floating along the placid Guadalupe. The river is a clean, crystal clear spring fed river that is revered throughout the state as "THE" recreational river in this part of the world. Folks try really hard to keep the river clean for others to enjoy, so you should, too. Pack out all your cans and trash.
The river water is ice cold year-round, but it can be downright unpleasant in early spring or late fall. After you've secured tubes and a shuttle from an outfitter, they will basically drive you upstream a few miles, let you out, and you float downstream back to your car. Most outfitters offer 2 different runs, a long one (about 5 miles) and a short one (about 3 miles). Floating time depends on river volume, but the short trip takes 3-4 hours, and the long trip takes 6-8 hours.

T here again - you have to be careful about getting too drunk. The last time I went I did so many jello shots while floating through groups of people that I couldn't even remember the ride home. You have no idea how drunk you are until you stand up. Not that you need to drink to enjoy it, but there is a LOT of drinking a pot smoking going on.
Then in the evening you can go hang out on 6th street. Here's something written on it:
