Is this materialistic of me?

Posted by Shy_Girl on May 22, 2005, at 21:45:59

I'm not much of a clothes person...I don't usually go shopping for clothes until I really need to. However, there are certain things that I would be extremely happy to get.

Right now, I would really really like to get myself a Sony PSP...hehe. It would be MUCH better than the gameboy sp I have. :-)

I think I'll be very happy if I got one. :D

Is an x-box.
Really.
Fable is brilliant if you are into RPG's.
And Halo
And Halo II
And Doom III
I am a die-hard x-box fan
:-)

OMG...yes, yes, yes!
I totally forgot that I don't have any non portable game systems. I love RPG's. :-)
I don't want to get too addicted though! I should probably wait under after I finish my degree (with any luck degrees) and get a stable job first....I don't want to spend my days playing games instead of going out.

PSP= PlayStation Portable

It can play games, movies, and music.

Hmm...
I hadn't heard of those before...
My laptop does all of that ;-)
Plus I can write the odd essay on it...
How does the price compare though???

I like x-box better than playstation because:
- the graphics are better
- it actually has a hard drive (operating system is windows 95 apparantly...) so the loading times are faster
- you can put your cd's on the hard drive...

Not too good unfortunately...I think about $400 CAD. Plus the games are quite expensive and you have to buy special discs to play movies in it. It would be fun to have if money were not an issue, but since it is, it's not the greatest deal IMO. :-)

Yeah. I had to wait until I got a scholarship to do my masters thesis. Then I was able to get a laptop and an x-box. Most people spent theirs on cars but I don't drive so...

Something to look foward to in life..
Perhaps.

What about for little ones? I've heard Game Cubes are best for little guys.

they want whatever is the newest....They compete with each other in this way...

That being said, Hunter has a GameCube which replaced the NintendoES (old), a gameboy advance (which replaced the regular gameboy) and still wants whatever they advertise on tv...

I just can't afford to keep buying the systems and then all new games, too!!! I told him that at 13, going on 14, he can get a summer job and buy his own!!!

then you'll get jobs that will make you enough money to get whatever system you want!!! Every system, every game... to your hearts' content...

as someone who never got a degree, I can afford barely anything... Was too distracted to continue all the way through university.....

would you like to come to my pity party????? (yes, this is me laughing at myself)

Actually, at the moment he keeps putting it off.

We explain the economics of each birthday/Christmas to him. There is $xxx to spend. If you get a GameCube (he really wants an XBox) and a few games that will cost about $xxx, which will leave you $xxx for other toys.

So far he's decided to make do with computer games and his Gameboy Advanced (given to him by his grandparents) so that he can get other toys. But it's fun to see him sit down and struggle with the numbers, and decide which he wants more.

we've actually gotten down to gift cards to the gaming stores... We tell him the same kind of thing... this is how much you got from me, this is how much you got from dad... you can spend it or wait to see what you get from Uncles, or Aunts, cousins, et cetera or you can blow what you have now... choice is yours...

Been that way for about three years and he ALWAYS blows them before waiting for all of his gifts- he would have been able to get a new system twice and still hasn't learned the lesson yet...We point it out after the fact, but we can't learn it for him!!!

Gee, wonder where he gets his impulsivity from... I learned that lesson from my ex -husband who put me tens of thousands of dollars in debt from HIS impulsive spending. That's where he gets the "hole in the pocket syndrome" from...

And I am still in debt. Just gotta love PA where in divorce the debt is split 50/50 no matter who signed the charge slips...

Well Sunny dearest, at least you started uni - I didn't even get that far.

Is your pity party invitation only or can a degreeless, potentially jobless, generally hopeless Aussie bloke come?

No- you can't come (smile)...

You have to continue feeling ambivalent about your job situation... I don't want you to join me in negative thinking.

I don't want ANYONE thinking negatively- not even me...

If your brain is still giving you a choice of how to think, go with positive....

Humph! How cheeky are you!

Still doing okay, surprisingly, scared sh*tless about the thought of looking for another job, but okay.

How you doin'?
