I always thought it was club soda (seltzer) and salt that took out red wine....but I never tried that AFTER washing (darn, wish I had italics, here, it does look like I'm yelling, doesn't it?)
At this point you may need to soak it for hours in a bucket of it, and it may not work, but it's certainly worth trying before throwing away a shirt you love, isn't it?
Good luck!

I have heard that white wine gets it out.... but I think it depends on the fabric- what kind is it?

wow, white wine, really? Like fighting fire with fire? wine vs wine? I like that, conceptually... I'll give that one a try next time, thanks!
I am a lazy laundress.... I usually forget about the stain at the time, pull it out of the hamper to seperate whites from darks, see it then and douse it liberally with gel formula Shout. I do the other load of laundry first; letting it sink in; then wash.... Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!

Well- when I was at a friend's boyfriends' mansion about a year ago- I spilled red wine on a silk carpet! Haha.. and that's when I was told by one of the maids there (yes, I said maid!) showed me that white wine would work... I was amazed... all she did was take a towel, soaked it in white wine and began dabbing it out.
If it doesn't work, I'd take it to a dry cleaner- those people can work miracles- even with cotton!

As a fellow red wine drinker, I can commiserate.
Here's a hint from the U.C. Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology - folks who should know a thing or two about red wine stains. Mix equal parts of 3% hydrogen peroxide and Dawn liquid dishwashing soap. Pour it on the stain and let it pre-soak for several minutes. Then launder as usual. It's a good remedy for colors and whites - and for cotton, polyester and nylon.

I found out (by accident - I just grabbed what was handy) that Glass Plus took red wine out of my white rug.
It also took out cool-aid - pretty much anything.
Funny thing - Windex didn't work as well for this.
This is the end of the thread.
