i have never cut before, but yesterday i used a shaving razor to make a series of small cuts in my wrist after i saw a woman do so in a movie. i just wanted to see what it felt like. today i tried again, and freaked out when i caused a noticeable gash. it's weird, i wasn't trying to quell any emotional pain or anything; i am just fascinated with wounds. i've had to take great precautions to hide the damage from my parents, but i feel a certain pleasure about that fact - like it's my own secret.
i don't feel any urge to do it again, and was fully conscious of what i did. i've just begun working with a new therapist, and wonder if i should tell them. i'm worried i might lose their respect, since i have no good reason for doing what i did. it was just a childish act of imitation.

definately tell. and plz don't do it again. it can become *really* addictive, and the scars can be forever.
take care of the wounds, keep them clean and use some anti-bacteria ointment.
definately tell your T, ok? T's have heard everything before and he/she won't judge you.

Yes, PLEASE tell your therapist. There was a reason you did that (could be something on an unconscious level). That is why you have a therapist....to talk about what is going on in your life. He/she won't lose respect for you, but will respect that you were honest.

thanks for your kind replies. i was embarassed to even mention what i did on here, i guess because i feel guilty that i enjoy it - and therefore that i'm some kind of fraud/imitation cutter, who trivializes the problem of 'real' cutters. BayLeaf, i imagine there is some OCD (which i have) component to it, because i was very careful afterwards, and equally enjoyed the ritual of sanitizing and bandaging myself. you're right, i think it could grow addictive fast, and i do struggle with addictive impulses. i'll be sure to tell my therapist.

definately tell your T. In order to help you they need to hear everything and honesty is a key. Funny seeing your post. I had not cutted for about 3 months, yet yesterday i fell asleep, woke up, cut my leg 3 times, and then went straight back to sleep. I don't know why I did it either, but like sassy said there must be an unconscious reason.

I read that cutting is releasing pain and seeing your alive. Could be right could be wrong? I don't know.

that was my logic, partly. what's weird is that my mom found the cuts and completely understood why i did it. she said she had read that people sometimes cut to affirm that they are real. i couldn't believe how well she handled it. i promised i wouldn't do it again, but sadly the urge keeps nagging me. i'll inform my T tomorrow.

Make sure you do. Glad your Mom is supportive. Love Phillipa
