cutting - tell therapist?

Posted by g_g_g_unit on October 28, 2009, at 5:56:32

i have never cut before, but yesterday i used a shaving razor to make a series of small cuts in my wrist after i saw a woman do so in a movie. i just wanted to see what it felt like. today i tried again, and freaked out when i caused a noticeable gash. it's weird, i wasn't trying to quell any emotional pain or anything; i am just fascinated with wounds. i've had to take great precautions to hide the damage from my parents, but i feel a certain pleasure about that fact - like it's my own secret.

i don't feel any urge to do it again, and was fully conscious of what i did. i've just begun working with a new therapist, and wonder if i should tell them. i'm worried i might lose their respect, since i have no good reason for doing what i did. it was just a childish act of imitation.
