I know.. me again! I just wanted to tell anyone who is interested that I decided to follow the advice of several of you to call and let my therapist know I will be at my next appt.
So, I called, got the receptionist, asked her to please leave a message for my T saying that "I called, am sorry for missing my last 2 appointments, but that I will be there next week." Well, the receptionist said "she's not in today," so I just said "never mind, then. I'll just see her next week."
But I did make the effort and it did feel like the right thing to do. I guess I could have told that girl to still leave the message, but she didn't offer to, and I'm not very assertive at this point. I'll tell my T when I see her next week that I did call on Friday to give her that message but she was not there (just so she knows I did try to let her know.)
Thanks everyone for helping me see things differently. I feel a lot better, too.
Sharon

Good for you, Sharon!
If we don't speak up for ourselves, nothing can happen (I know how hard it is)

That's great!
I've always found being as honest as possible really works well for me.

Shame on that receptionist! What a horrible response. All she needed to do (and is her job) take the message. Then she could have ended the conversation, "She's not in today but I'll make sure she gets your message on xxx".
Who trained her to take phone calls from clients?
I would fire her!

i actually TOTALLY agree with annirose. i mean is it REALLY that much work to write a few words on a paper and reassure the cliental that a message will be left??? Thats HER JOB!
yikes.
anyway that's beside the point.
Congrats. you did Such a good job.
i know that stuff is really hard for me. theres stuff i want to tell T, Know that i should express to T, but sometimes with she could just yank it out of my head rather than make me voice it.and someone else said it right, we have to advocate for ourselves.
You Did Great!
congrats, now go have a big chocolate sundae!b2c.

Good for you. That's a crappy response, but who cares? It only matters what you do, not what others' responses are. At least in an ideal world, that is :)

Thanks everybody for saying calling was the right thing to do, even though my t didn't get the message. It was more a personal triumph for me anyway for being willing to back down and act more grown up.
I'll be anxious to write after my appt on Wed. Dang. I'm going to be her last patient again. I've seen her last lots of time and she has always been just as attentive as if I had seen her first thing. I think I was just still pissed at her when I was ranting and kind of blaming her for my behavior during our last session. And it may very well be that she really wasn't too thrilled with having to sit for 50 minutes with me saying I didn't have anything to talk about and watch me stare at the ceiling. One time I actually told her (looked her in the eye and everything!) that "she was not very nice to me last time." I could tell it took her off guard. I think she was just so shocked that I was able to express that to her. Once she recovered (lol!) she said something like 'I probably sensed her frustration because she doesn't like it when her patients aren't doing good' (and I have not been doing good.) I could tell she was being so careful with her answer because she did not want to give me any reason to regret expressing myself that way. So maybe you guys are right that she really does want me to be able to tell her what I'm feeling.
Hey, you guys are gonna help her out a lot. (and help me out a lot with her!) Oh man, I better not tell her about this site because i would just die if she ever saw some of the things I wrote! Yipes! Maybe I should have come up with a more creative user name! Not that she would ever have time to do that anyway, and besides, I'm not the center of her universe (or anyone elses.) Boy, she's sure like to know her saying that to me last week sure stuck!
I hope this was a good day for you all.
Thanks for all your support and encouragement.

Thanks, onceupon! I appreciate the support. What a difference a day can make. I still feel so relieved from finally being able to open up to her. She was great. She's probably thinking "what the heck happened?" She doesn't know I found you guys. I'll probably tell her, though. She did say before that I need more support than just her once a week. And since I'm sure she didn't mean the solution was 'more of her in the week!' although I wish I could see her everyday, or at least twice a week. I just can't afford it, though. I go twice a week if I'm having a crisis and assuming she gets a cancelation.
Hey, thanks again for checking on me! I really appreciate it! I hope you're doing well.
