Estrogen and Memory Loss?

Posted by happykat on December 30, 2006, at 18:41:46

Has anyone here gone through menopause or had low estrogen levels. I've had one doc tell me I'm going through menopause, although I'm about ten or more years early for that. Another says my levels are fine. My memory seems really spotty lately. Just wondering if anyone has been through this and if they had any memory probs.

Thanks,
HK

Lots of conflicting ideas on this. You can have symptoms of menopause 10 years before you actually have your last period. So if you are in your mid 30s then you really aren't too young!

Lots of things can cause memory loss: stress, some meds, lack of sleep, and yes in my experience low estrogen. "Menopause and the Mind" is an intersting book. It is a bit out of date though.

For some reason, that link did NOT connect to the correct book! Sorry!

Hi MidnightBlue,

Thanks for your post. I found the "Menopause and the Mind" book and ordered it. It sounds interesting.

I'm not on any meds and sleep is fair but I am under alot of stress. My hormone levels seem to be fluctuating. I've been told that I'm perimenopausal and flat out menopausal. I'm currently closing in on 40. I entered therapy and have had a hard time remembering some things from childhood and other things coming up that I never remembered but were corraborated by others. I want to write it off as maybe hormonal but therapist thinks maybe not. Although docs have said my hormones are off. Go figure? My regular day to day short term memory seems o.k., seems to be the long term thats a problem.

Regards,
happykat

That's strange as usually it's the short term memory that goes not long term as you age. Good luck. Love Phillipa

Thanks for your post Phillipa. It just seems to be long term, don't know why. Oh well at least I have the short term.

Regards,
happykat :)
