The memories of past holidays brings grief into sharp focus. What has been dulled by time is brought back so very clearly. Laughter, rejoicing, sharing our own memories; goodbyes. You want all of these people to return for just one more last hug.

My dad's birthday was on 12/25. He died when I was five & Christmas hasnt been the same since.
We used to have birthday cake every year on Christmas Day - but the last time was Christmas of 86. The missing cake is such a significant reminder of his absence.

Easter was a terrible one too. I remember the first easter after he died. I was not yet 6, but almost. I had my easter basket and was sitting in the hallway, waiting for my mom to take us to church. I remember feeling so ashamed, because I was not happy - and my mom had always said Easter was a very happy day.
I just sat in the hallway looking at the things in my basket, And that was the moment I very first realized that my dad was never coming back. Maybe I knew that if he wasnt there for something like Easter Sunday, he never would be there for anything else either.
Gosh, the memory of this particular day just rips me apart.
