how do you know the difference between

feelings of "moving on/past" a subject vs avoidance?

I know that I should be feeling a lot of "stuff" about my stepfather (legally adopted us, we called him Dad...) that will never be discussed or resolved now that he is dead, but I cannot seem to rouse myself to care about it unless someone else asks me how I'm "doing"...And even then, it is mostly guilt at being able to put him out of my mind as completely as I have...

Does this question even make any sense at all?

Thanks,
sunny10

Of course it makes sense! I don't want to belittle what you're feeling *at all* but I think that it is a fairly common feeling. Only you can judge whether you are in denial or not, perhaps with some help. Wether you are or not, if you are not ready to talk then don't force it. I know that some people will disagree, but I'm of the opinion that if something is helping you funtion (like denial) and it will not come back to haunt you in future, then there may be no point in bring it up. But if you do want to talk about it, then to do can only be a good thing.

it's the "come back to haunt me in the future" part that concerns me...
