I am so distraught, today a young woman hanged herself at her home this morning. I live in a small town. I know the mother....
Our community is stunned.
Her friends went to the house and hung out. Her boyfriend was questioned. She left no note. Her mother had no idea she was so upset.
How do we move through this?
I don't know what else to say. I am so sad.

Oh, God, Pat....I am so sorry.
My uncle killed himself, my sister seriously attempted as did all my other sisters.
As my sister would say:
"It a permant solution to a temporary problem."
I have been in a funk all day. I went out to hear some of the high school kids singing in a group tonight and one of the teachers commented on her death. She was such a good person...so up beat. No one suspected she was even thinking about doing this. It came as a shock to everyone.
I guess I am still processing it. Some times I think, how can life go on without her? And yet it does and we do...
Pat, I am so sorry about your daughter.

Oh Jai, my message was wrong........my daughter's best friend shot herself. I was at work, first time I've posted from work, and didn't catch the error..........I'm glad you went to hear the young people sing. I'm so sorry that you're experiencing this. I'll be thinking of you and her friends and family. Pat

Oh Jai...that is so sad. Teen suicide is just so disturbing. So much life ahead.
I'm glad the school had a memorial. That's so important for the other students and for the community. Her poor family, they must still be in shock. I used to help run a support group for people who lost a loved one to suicide. Such intense grief.
It's too soon now, but at some point, someone could hook them up with Compassionate Friends. They have support groups all over - for parents who have experienced the death of a child. Here is their link:
http://www.compassionatefriends.org/
Also, The American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide has a lot of support groups, not as many as the above group, but it's a great organization. Here is the link, just go to Survivor, then Groups to see if there is a group which meets in their area. The groups listed may not all be affilitated with the national group, but just being with people who understand can help.

We typically say to wait at least a month for the shock to begin to wear off before you try to start processing it in a group setting. (Three months if it's not a traumatic loss.)
I'm so sorry Jai. Each suicide is just a heartbreaker. Emmy

The night after she died I wondered how the family could go to sleep in the house where it had happened?
They must have wanted to be somewhere else. Maybe another life? I just hate thinking about them waking up the next morning wondering if it was a bad dream. That's of course if they could sleep at all.
I am glad our paper covered her death so soon, the story was on the front page. This coverage gives us all permission to talk about her and our grief.
One person has such an impact on everyone.
ps (thanks for the correction Pat. It's still pretty intense but I'm glad it wasn't your daughter.)

SUISIDE IS SUCH A WASTE OF LIFE. USUALLY IF PEOPLE WERE INVOLVED IN THE INDIVIDUALS LIFE THEY SHOULD NOTICE LITTLE MINUTE CHANGES. I TRIED IT BEFORE AND WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THEY KNEW THERE WWAS TROUBLE AT HOME BUT PUT ME BACK INTO THE ABUSIVE SITUATION. IF THEY WOULD HAVE INTERVEINED I WOULDN'T HAVE TRIED IT AS MANY TIMES.

*Well I am here and ready to hear your story....I love long stories...I read really fat books.
They are my favorites.
So bring it on.
I can handle it.
I would love for you to share it.
Maybe the writing site might be better since it's your story.....
Give it a go?
This is the end of the thread.
