With me the theory seems to be to clear the damp heat first.
Only then is it safe to start building yin. So that is where we are now.
I've been given Tian Wang Bu Xin Wan, otherwise known as Ginseng and Zizyphus formula.
It does not contain Panax but does contain codonopsis and rhemannia and heaps of other stuff. It seems not to be stimulating.
After the new herbs and the acupuncture I actually slept 8 hours with a couple of wakings....the best sleep I have had in quite a few years.

That's a good formula for calming, has the herbs you mentioned and schisandra as well. I've been getting night sweats and can only seem to sleep about 5-6 hours. The main effect is that I'm tired (duh) and of course don't feel as sharp or bright, but I think another hour or two of sleep would help. It is super hot here, and I tend to develop heat easily, so I will definitely need to boost Yin rather than my usual super-Yang boosting. There is no other good explanation for these symptoms and why herbs seem to help.
I can get 5:1 extracts of every imaginable herbal formula for about $18 for 200g, where you take 6-9 grams a day. I prefer raw herbs, but the powders are just too convenient and reasonably priced at the store I found. I just walk in and the guy gives me whatever I want, and at a 20% discount off his catalog price.
I'd be willing to ship these out to people for cost and shipping, but not sure about the legality/customs issues of doing so. Of course I could just say it's something else, but I'm not wanting to get myself or you in any trouble over healing medicine...

Do the powders have labels and stuff like that? At 5:1 that is $18 a kilo. That sounds great. Much much better than the black pills for $15 for 200.
I'll give it a go. What do we do? We can use Babblemail, I guess, though it is unreliable. The theory seems to be, from my latest appointment, that kidney yin is down as is kidney yang (which I guess is what it feels like) and they both need to be improved with kidney yin going first. So some deer velvet is in the mix, which hopefully might be fun without insomnia.

I can think of 2 herbs I have always been prescribed.
Poria cocus
Zizyphus spinozaand then
Scutellaria baicalensisPolygala and schizandra sound safe, maybe codonopsis.
That sort of thing.
