Most relaxing amino acid?

Posted by aminos4me on July 18, 2007, at 3:28:30

Hi,
i recently weened myself off lexapro and have decided to investigate the power of amino acids to combat symptoms of borderline personality disorder.

I have had much luck with the anti depressant / energising effects of L-Tyrosine.

I am currently looking into L-Tryptophan (which is hard to come by in australia) to help with sleep + anti depressant/anti anxiety effects.

My main question here today is...
What is the best amino acid to releive peak anxiety/agitated/impulsive states that i can take mainly just when needed?

I currently still take 2.5mg Zyprexa, only when its absolutely necessary for anxiety, mood swings and instability. In fact ive maybe used it once since i went off the lexapro and began my investigation into aminos. Its just good to have that last resort on hand for emergency like symptoms, that i rarely get these days anyway.

Any input is hugely appreciated.
However my aim is to get the most releif with just amino's before i start looking into herbs etc.

THANX!

Glycine and Taurine. Either of those may help reduce your anxiety. L-Theanine might also help.

Glycinei is mentioned on the following site >

You can look up Taurine on this forum, it's been mentioned heavily and also L-theanine. Personally neither of them has been very effective for treating agitated anxiety for me. I'm awaiting an order for Glycine to see if that will work.

You may also like to look at a combination of 3 grams each of L-Arginine and Lysine.

"Anxiety

A recent study of 29 subjects with “relatively high trait anxiety” showed that dual supplementation with L-lysine and L-arginine (3 g each/day) caused a normalization of hormonal responses during psychosocial stress — i.e., the pattern of stress-related hormones that high-anxiety people experience during stressful experiencies (such as public speaking) was modified by the supplements so that it resembled that experienced by low-anxiety people."

Hey thanx alot for your input. I am interested to know how ur trial of of Glycine goes. I am a big tea drinker, and have alot of faith in L theanine, taurine is another i had in mind. My main concern is there slight ALMOST stimulant properties.
My first idea was to try GABA, its still on the cards but with little evidence of it crossing the blood brain barrier im really not too sure.

Do u have any experience with GABA?

GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier, so it can't get to where it can have any effect on anxiety. I tried it and it made anxiety worse and I had laboured breathing which is a known side effect. Not a very useful supplement for treating anxiety in my opinion. However in combination with Inositol and Nicinamide it may work.

Glycine is pretty good.
