I'm at my wits end w/ binge eating. The chromium's done nada, now I'm trying this PBX and it's not helping. I'm so frustrated. I have 3 healthy meals but am still hungry and CRAVE sweets such as cookies and cakes. I dream about this stuff. I've increased my protein intake, to no avail. Drinking more water. Journaling, therapy, etcs.
Anyway, my last shot at alternative stuff is Tryptophan. BTW- 5HTP did NOTHING for me. I don't care if you're not supposed to take it with Prozac. Things can't be worse and I'm on a low dose of Prozac anyway. Question: Where to order? I recall a post a while back from Larry that he gets it from a veterinary supply website. Can you please post the site again? I'm too lazy to look it up. Thanks. Sorry for the whine-y post, I'm just very frustrated.

I suggest getting a capsule filler and some capsules. This stuff doesn't mix well and it tastes like crap, but it has worked for me and it's the cheapest price I've found on tryptophan anywhere.
Just to let you know what has worked for me,and I've been on the ssri's which did work but I didn't like the side effects is this:
B-complex:Definitely needed if you take tryptophan
Inositol:8-10 grams(yes grams),takes 3-4 weeks to start working.
Tryptophan:About 2-3 grams
Multivitamin

Thank you. About how much of the powder is 2-3 grams? Thanks again.

It comes with it's own scoop and one scoop is equal to 1,847 mg.But,like I said I use capsules and a capsule filler using size 00 capsules and take 4-5 of these a day which equals to about 2grams.

Yes, that's the place. I suggest the Ultra-pure form.

I agree about the price. It doesn't stir into beverages well, but a blender does the trick for me.

It comes with a little scoop. Two scoops is about 3 grams.

Well, actually, one serving is 1847 grams, which is 1 1/2 scoops, unless your scoop size and label are different than mine.

More potent, on a gram per gram basis, but better? <shrug> Cheaper? Not if it doesn't work.

work better than 5htp?
is there a rationale for that?
seems what i've seen lately does not imply that trypt is bettter, but that 5htp is...
it's worth knowing your opinion, to me at least...

But I would like to purchase products from http://www.smi2le.biz/Products.shtml and I was wondering where I might find a scale accurate enough to measure say 10 mg with not too much error. On the super cheap of course.

But I would like to purchase products from http://www.smi2le.biz/Products.shtml and I was wondering where I might find a scale accurate enough to measure say 10 mg with not too much error. On the super cheap of course.Postal scale. That's your search keywords. Here's an idea: http://stores.ebay.com/JS-DIGITAL-SCALES-POSTAL-SCALE
If you try to get precision scales for any other purpose, you may run afoul of the drug police. They're considered drug paraphernalia, and I wouldn't wanna have bags of mysterious powders around if they came over for a look-see.
Great prices at that site. Thanks. Also, take a look at Beyond a Century: https://www2.acadia.net/cgi-bin/BAC/web_store.cgi
Another alternative, if you're not too concerned about exact doses, is to do volumetric proportioning. Dump all the contents of your bulk purchase into a bowl, and spoon it out, counting number of spoons. Obviously, the more reproducibly you can do the spooning (exactly the same amount each time, and using e.g. an exact measure like a baking teaspoon measure), the better it is. So, say your 100 gram bag of bulk product X works out to 40 teaspoons. Then each teaspoon is 2.5 grams, and you mark that on the container.

Thank You!!! Using that link I found a scale that will measure 0.01 grams for about 50 bucks!

Avoiding that would be good...

That's a great idea but it won't work for me, I only have 10 fingers.
Thanks again.

Yuck. First night I put two scoopfuls on my cereal, gagged and had to throw it out. Tried mixing with liquids, and it didn't mix. How are you folks taking the powder??? I think it was KaraS that mentioned empty capsules, where do you get them? Think Larry Hoover mentioned the blender but I can't imagine what to blend it with. Tonight I'm thinking of putting it in a small slice of cheese, rolling it up and then just try to swallow it. Cripes the stuff is vile. Did sleep good, though . . . hoping it helps my carbo cravings. . 5HTP did nothing for me.

Definitely don't take it with cheese,it will never reach the brain to do it's work.I mentioned the capsules and a capsule filler and their both pretty cheap.I have a local health store here that carries them.If you don't have a local place that sells them, just do a search on google for "empty capsules" or "capsule filler".

Have you tried adding your tryptophan to a spoon of honey, or jam or similar?

I blend mine into soya milk, which I use as a base for a variety of different bulk supps. Despite the presence of other aminos, I still get some benefit from the tryptophan. I haven't yet done it, but I'm going to try blending it into some orange juice, for my 'empty stomach in a.m.' dose.

Beyond A Century sells the capsules and the capsule packing devices. I haven't tried them yet though a lot of people here seem to use them. Here's their main page: (Go to their products page, then click on their first special products section and scroll down to the bottom of the page. I'm spoonfeeding it to you because it took me a long time to locate the capsules and filler on this site and I thought I'd save you the trouble.)
http://www.beyond-a-century.com/
I don't know anything about the various sizes or which device is best. That's probably a question for Larry.
This is the end of the thread.
