Repeated Rquests to Register....

Posted by Elroy on June 15, 2005, at 20:51:34

Why do I get messages like this periodically when I try to reply to a post - even though I have been a registered user for several months??? And have been filing posts routinely (other than when this message demands that I re-register)....

Thanks for your interest in Psycho-Babble!

Registration is required to post, and an e-mail address is required to register. To make sure the e-mail address is valid (and yours), an e-mail will be sent to it and your registration won't be complete until you confirm it with the code that's included. It's still up to you, however, whether to give out your e-mail address when you post.

Please note that explicit informed consent is required to post. If you haven't explicitly consented yet, you'll be taken to that step if you click the "register for the first time" or the "update registration" button.

The registration process takes place on a secure web server, so information you submit is encrypted before it's sent, so you don't have to worry about it being intercepted. If you're curious, check the security of this server and your browser here.

In general, you can tell if a web page is secure if:

1. There's a locked padlock at the bottom of your browser window.
2. The URL starts with "https" ("s" stands for "secure").
3. With a Netscape browser, under the View menu, under Page Info, under the Security tab, it tells you the connection is encrypted.

Are you blocking Dr. Bob's cookies?

Nope.

Will just out of the blue do that for one or two occasions and then go back to working okay!

No, that was my point.

Sometimes I could post fine... and other times it would tell me that I had to register as a user before I could post (even though I was already registered).

Two hours later then I could post fine. It would be fine for a few days and then happen again.

Almost the same here. We had two computers hooked up to the same line. One would let me post and the other wouldnl't. We even changed internet users and the same thing continued. Finally we took the computer back to the store sine it was under warrantee and had destructive restoration. Lost a lot of files but it works now. Fondly, Phillipa

Weird, are you using some kind of personal firewall software maybe? Some of them start a web proxy that can block cookies. Some kind of anti-spyware type thing running? I think they do the same thing. What browser are you using?

I'd like to take this opportunity to mention FireFox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Multi-tabbed, themes, more control over security settings, especially with some of the extensions. My favorite is the right click on a word spell check extension cause I can't spell anymore.

Anyway...

Does your in-box ever fill up? If email to you "bounces", you may be asked to confirm your registration to make sure your address is still valid. Thanks for your patience,

Bob
