Love my XP, but....(a tech question)

Posted by Noa on May 25, 2004, at 17:48:39

I just had my computer done over from scratch and it's now loaded with XP, which I am liking. It's also nice to have better virus protection and to be rid of all the messy stuff that was making the old OS function more and more slowly (until it froze up).

One teeny tiny issue is this: When viewing PB in frames, the whole page seems to be set up for a bigger monitor screen than I have. I've adjusted the screen text size to "smaller", which helps (kinda) but it doesn't change what happens in the posting frame, where I am now. This results in having to scroll side to side in order to see the edge of the message box and the scroll bar on the right side of the message box. OK, when I'm typing, it scrolls automatically, but if I'm editing and am looking for a particular spot, it requires scrolling side to side. I.e., I can't see the entire message box at once. If I want to see the entire message box, I have to adjust the center frame wall so that the screen is split about 40/60.

It's not that big an issue, but it is hard to get used to. Any ideas?

Ugh, what a pain. I don't know anything about XP, but you can't be the only one using it, how does it work for others?

Alternatively, I know there are other issues with the size of the message box, and one item on my to-do list is to let posters customize its dimensions. I'll try to get to that sooner rather than later...

Do you know what your screen size setting is??

If not..

Right click on your desktop (on your wall paper, not on a file)..
Select "properties"
Then select the "settings" tab
near the bottom it will tell you your "screen resolution"
I use XP, and mine is set to 1024 x 768 pixels.

Just one suggestion

Thanks, Nikki. That helps a lot! With the resizing, I had to go back and reset the text size back to "medium" because it was teeny tiny. The only problem is that the icons in my launch bar are really small now, but choosing large icons makes them too big, so I'll stick with the little ones for now.

Bob, Nikki's suggestion seems to do solve the problem pretty well. Thanks.

I thought that would be the problem.. XP seems to work much better on that screen resolution, and it seems vast majority of websites seem to be developed for that screen resolution!

You'll get used to the teeny icons soon.. It seems really strange when you first change, but quite quickly becomes normal!
