I have OCD. I've conquered many obsessions, however I can't seem to shake my obsession about suicide. Currently I'm treating my OCD with Anafranil, Invega and Ativan. I've tried a ton of different medications to augment my current treatment: Topemax, Rilutek, Keppra, Gabitril, Clonidine, Namenda, Odansetron, Opiates and Dextroamphetamine. Nothings working! Do I have to spend the rest of my life thinking about suicide half the day? Ugh, I hope not. I would appreciate any kind of input you fellow Babblers might have.

You wrote,[...my obsession about suicide...] [...(list of psychotropic chemicals)...I would appreciate any kind of input...].
If you could post answers to the following, then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.
A. Are you aware that some pschotropic chemicals have the potential to induce a mind-alterd state that could compell the person taking those chemicals to want to kill themselves?
B. Have the person(s) that have prescribed the drugs to you ever warned you that psychotropic drugs could induce that stae of mind in you?
C. Are you aware of what could be the result of combining psychotropic chemicals?
D. Have you contacted the company that manufacures the chemicals that you are taking?
E. If you could go back in time to the day that you took the first psychotropic chemical, would you do it again?
F. Are you aware that stopping the drugs could cause severe reactions?
G. Would you be willing to seek a drug withdrawal plan or are you wanting to find another drug?
H. Are you aware that death could be a result of combining particular psychotropic chemicals?
K. other questions if the above are answerd.

Lithium is the only drug *proven* to take suicidal ideations away.
I have bipolar disorder and I know for a fact that lithium saved my life.
People who suggest going off drugs seem to think our brains operate in a vacuum from the rest of the body, and are immune from any sort of chemical inbalances or physical trauma.

Phidippus, I am sorry that this has been such a protracted struggle. I wish, too, that I had some idea to share. Have you tried lithium? I suspect it works best for bi polar which you are not. Best to you.

I'm so sorry you are having the constant suicidal thoughts. I also have a form of OCD. Could be why I think of being old and dying a lot. But is the BPD bipolar or borderline personality disorder? As I feel bipolar no doubt in my mind that it's a chemical imbalance and has some sort of mutant or abnormal gene as it seems to pass to other generations. I have read that zyprexa also works well for suicidal thoughts. You are not thinking of acting on them? If so a call to a crisis center or doc is in order. Phillipa

If you are led to believe in any way that taking the combination of the drugs anafranil and lithium, or invega and lithium, is somethng to try, I am requesting that you read the following.
Lou
In my investigation of the taking of these combinations, I have found in the liturature that taking the combination of anafranil and lithium could cause:
A.the potential of the risk of neurotoxicity
B.psychotic symptoms
C. mania
D.serotonin syndrome
E. neuroleptic syndrome
And with the combination of lithium and invega;
F. neurotoxicity
G. CNS depressant effects.

You are not alone. I have never been diagnosed with OCD, but my constants thoughts about it is a form of OCD, of that I am positive. I think about it ALL the time if I am feeling ok. I walk around our beautiful city and all I see are potention suicide methods (tall hotels with balconies etc). I really know what you are going through. I don't know how I can make the thoughts go away, but I am going to mention it again to my pdoc on Friday. If he has any advice I will pass it on to you.

Well, I do exposures to treat the suicidal thoughts. I'll play act losing control and killing myself. I'll go to the tops of tall buildings and force myself to look over the edge. When the thoughts come, I agree with them or play along with them. Therapeutic delay allows me to think about suicidal thoughts later, just not now. I donn't know what to make of their tenacity, but the thoughts still come. I'd rather think of something else.

Maxie, this may sound odd and off the cuff and not at all what you and phidippus are talking about at all, however, I thought ptsd. Not that you or P. have it. As usual I understand so subjectivly through my feelings, I imagined walking through my home town and the awful lens that clouds my sight.
It's like my mind is engraved. I think sometimes why I want rTMS or fantasize about ect. Just to obliterate that same same everyday person I wake up being.

Hi
, I have taken both Seroquel and lithium and both have been useful to reduce S.I. Right now the Rx for my TRD is Lithium 600 and seroquel XR 150mg and the SI has been effectively erased.I think one or the other or both could be helpful for you too.

I found that DBT helped with SI. My DBT therapist said, these trains keep coming along, but you don't have to jump on every one. You can let one pass and say, I will think about this tomorrow.

I never thought of that. I don't suffer from PSTD anymore, but I did in the past. I also wish I could have ECT with the hope of getting rid of certain memories.
I have to pursue your theory more ...

I did a 9 month DBT programme myself. It didn't help with suicidal ideation, but it did help with self injury.
Your therapist sounds like a wise person.

I have been on Seroquel and am currently on Lithium. Unfortunately, neither decreased suicidal ideations for me. Remember, ITS JUST ANXIETY.

> PHi Phidippus, is it really just anxiety? I ask in sincerity. For you, that is. I get the impression that you are not depressed;
rather more frustrated. That is my impression only, and I offer it because I am curious about your experience of OCD.I imagine anxiety could beget depression
eventually. The opoid treatment last year (was it?) lost it's efficacy? I am sorry.
Lately, I'm on the rTMS wagon-- reading and reading. Has it shown any usefulness in treating OCD?

rTMS has been used to treat OCD for quite sometime now. I don't know if the rTMS is available where I live. I will have to check.
