Hey,
I'm new to the board but have been lurking for years. I'm in need of a sleep med/augment to add to nardil to fight insomnia. I'd prefer to add one that will provide some extra ad kick as nardil may be waning on ad response. I'd like to hear what worked for people on or while on a maio in the past with atypical dep/anxiety but anyone is welcome to respond. I prefer not to take sedative hypnotics (ie zopiclone) or benzos (both dampen my mood) but am willing to hear suggestions. I'm thinking about a sedating tca with good ad response for atypicals (ie trimipramine or maprotiline) but I lack the background as to what is out there. I'd prefer one that doesnt increase anxiety for us anxiety sufferers. Can anyone give me some good ideas to run by my gp?...preferably ones that are not contraindicated. Although if any literature exists to demonstrate safety with the combined use he may go for it but not sure.thnx

have you tried Trazodone? (a sedating tca used for sleep). I take benedryl every night latley and its good. Seroquel knocks ya out and has antidepressant properties as well as anti anxiety.

MAOIs would cause me total sleep deprivation, I combined Halcion with Ativan. This was in the mid 1980s before Halcion went out of favor because of episodes of amesia. It seems to me that Ambien is no better, and could possibly be worse in this regard. Now, on an occasional basis, I use Ativan only.
Ativan was not too difficult for me to discontinue, even after daily use for 3 years.
I would not hesitate to try small doses of trazodone or even Seroquel first. I have seen someone safely combine Nardil with doxepin (Sinequan). Theoretically, trimipramine should be ok because it does not inhibit the reuptake of serotonin. However, I know of no cases of its use.

Hi,
I've been taking Seroquel for Nardil induced insomnia for several years now. I take only 25mg per night and it almost always knocks me out within one half hour. I usually sleep for eight hours on it. The 25mg is nothing compared to the 600 to 800mg sometimes taken for Schizophrenia. I have developed no tolerance to the medication after multiple years.
Good Luck,
Jedi

> 60mg nardilmyco; I too have a depresion/anxiety dissorder and have been diagnosed with a complex sleep dissorder. A lot of fun trying to have a life when you only get 1-3 hrs. of sleep at night, maybe, for 6-7 straight nights. Your posting indicated that you would prefer to stay away from benzo's but I finally found an RX cocktail that has worked for me without fail and I don't wake up all doped up in the a.m. The magic combination for me was .2mg of Clonidine HCL, 2mg of Klonopin and 8mg of Rozerem. The key is the Rozerem. A side benefit for us anxiety sufferers is that Klonopin has a good long 1/2 life and will help decrease anxiety durying the day without losing any executive functions. Depending on a lot of other factors of course, you may be able to get by with less klonopin and maybe with only .1mg of Clonidine HCL. Obviously, check with your physician to see if any of these meds are contra-indicated vis-a-vis the meds you're already on. One other thing. The Rozerem is very, very expensive. But for me, getting my life back is well worth the price. Let me know how it works out for you if you deciede to try the Rozerem. Good luck. Anwar.

i like trazodone. 4$ a two months supply. no side effects for me. i get 7 hours of sleep, the parnate would probably give me 4 hours if i didn't take anything. i also take melatonin just to get me tired in the evening and feeling like bed.
