back on Wellbutrin

Posted by paxvox59 on December 10, 2008, at 17:47:36

Got a GP to write me some Wellbutrin 150 SR, a med I took before (successfully) for quite a few years. Thing is, I'm feeling very jittery and anxious (in addition to my "regular" anxiety). I was wondering if anyone has had some recent experience with this, and if it passes after awhile. Only been back on it (twice daily) for about a week, so that might make a difference.

Thanks!

most report that the anxiety or jittery feelings that can accompany WB start-up DO eventually subside over time.

depending on dose and individual sensitivities it can be as little as one week or as long as a month (beyond for some). personally remember it taking a full month last time switched from generic to namebrand WB XL 300mg.....but that's mainly because there was no way to taper up to the 300 mg again after the totally useless generic that didn't work in this situation.

sorry you're feeling additional anxiety along w/ the depression and panic attacks.

have you ever augmented WB before w/ Buspar (buspirone)? it can be mildly antianxiolitic and has been a tremendous support for current med cocktail. personally couldn't tolerate WB w/o the buspirone to keep the energy tamped down a notch.....otherwise would be way too "up" and that's not the goal here.

wishing you much support.

since the gp did rx WB would it be possible to get on Glaxo's free program now?

what can the folks here on board do to help you through this rough time?

As far as Glaxo, haven't checked with them. Did check with several "discount" houses, but none carried the 150SR dose. The GP was a "cold call" and I'm lucky to have gotten what I did, I guess. When I was on WB before, I also had Klonopin to take off the edge. Not likely to get THAT now, and it may not be good for me considering my situation. What can the PB folks do for me? Gee, I wish that I could just be able to spill guts and get a hug w/ reassurance that it's all going to be OK. I get so caught up in the "what might happen" scenario to be able to deal with the here and now effectively.

Hi Paxvox,

I am Wellbutrin SR, I am at 225 but started at 150 and I rememeber all too well that anxious feeling. I too have anxiety with panic attacks. It does pass. If I remember correctly it took maybe a week to 9 days.

I augmented with xanax. I guess you can't get that. But maybe you can add magnesium, which as a supplement calms you and usually has little side effects. You can start with 500 mg and add up to 1000 mg. I take that in my supplement routine.

5htp also as a supplement is suppose to calm you since it helps with serotonin levels, which is the calming neurotransmittor. I don't know if you have ever taken it or can take it with the other meds you might be on.

I have been taking it as well. My anxiety is better now.

Good luck, take care.

What is 5htp? I am hoping that the anxiety lessens soon. I guess the ends justify the means. Oh my, a benzo would certainly help, but guess I cannot go down that road again due to abuse history.

5 htp is a supplement supposed to be good. You'd have to google it as not sure. But absoulutely no way for a small dose of a benzo for short time to ease your discomfort. Will be here to support you. Love Phillipa

Hi Pax,

I was on regular Wellbutrin for one month, the first week I felt great and had tremendous energy, I'm wondering if that feels jittery to you? It did leave after a week or so. After that I felt increasingly irritable, not good with little one's about. Don't remember my dose, I took for ADD. I wonder had I stayed on it if the irritability would have passed. Now, I would likely give it more time or augment to offset s/e's.

Hope that helps,

~Jade

I chose to DC the WB last Sunday since I knew it was exacerbating my anxiety and fear. I guess I forgot how much the Klonopin I used to take along with the WB took the edge off of it. I would like to go on Lexapro, but there's no way I can afford to pay for that. I wonder what generic SSRI meds might work for GAD?

All of the ssris can help with GAD; they basically are all interchangeable, although some people only respond to certain ones. although you might want to start with one of the less activating ones, like paxil or luvox. Citalopram is more neutral, and might have fewer side effects, so i guess i'd recommend that one. Inositol is not too expensive if you buy in bulk and can be helpful as well.
