Seroquel

Hello. New to babble. I have been on Paxil for a couple of years and used to think it was a miracle drug. I started feeling bad again (overwhelmed, anxiety, mood swings, angry all the time, sleeplessness) and went to see a Psychiatrist. He diagnosed me as Type II bipolar, upped the Paxil dosage and started me on Lithium. In the past month, I've been waking up soaked in sweat, had terrible nightmares, more moody than ever, bursts of anger and severe depression, lots of rotten feelings. I went to see my doctor, he lowered the Paxil (horrific side effects), kept me on the Lithium and added Seroquel. This stuff makes me feel like I'm drunk and out of control. I hate it. I feel like I am coming unglued. Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel like the effects of the medication are so much worse than how I was feeling on my own, that I should flush them all and just work out more, find a Yogi. However, I have tried to stop taking Paxil, cold turkey, and I was so sick and so dizzy, I could hardly stand up. What to do, what to do.........

hey! If I were you, I'd complain over and over again about the side-effects you're experiencing. Seroquel isn't even indicated for bipolar II yet, and LOTS of people still have problems with antipsychotics, both the new and old ones. Anyway, tell him/her you'd like to try a different antidepressant b/c the Paxil SUCKS. Most docs will switch you over to something else. As for the seroquel thing...my advice would be to explain that you'd rather not be on an anti-psychotic, but would prefer straight up mood-stabilizer(s). I'm still a bit surprised at your combo, for BP II, b/c not only are antipsychotics generally unnecessary in BP II, but using lithium+antipsychotic is known to raise the risk of side-effects considerably. Good luck!

Hi:
I've been on Lithium and the Zyprexa combo. for manic side of my Bp II. From what I've been experiencing, this combo. is a GREAT combo. for me, particularly 'dysphoric'(severe angry outburst) along with 'ultra-rapid cycler.' I'm quite happy about its result, as seeing my Bp mania has been almost, 95% wiped out from my system.

Before this combo., I was all the time 'angry' over nothing, even my pet dog's barking made me SO angry. Then, I'd say this combo. is a 'miracle' combo. for me in regard to my Bp II mania.

As for 'Paxil,' ... I'm suprised to see you got one in the first place, because this med. seems not well-working on Bp II. But, of course, everyone is different. For me, the Trazodone before the bed giving me a 'wonder,' since this med. has both effectiveness, 'anxiety,' and 'anti-depressant,' plus 'very economical' BTW. But, somewhere over the Internet, I read 'Paxil CR(or XR?) has good effect on both, Anxiety and Depression.

If I were you, ... I call the pdoc. to ask another med., particularly a med. for a replacement of Paxil that might be causing a 'big' problem.
H.G.
