Mirapex Diary

Posted by whitdaddy on November 3, 2004, at 8:46:03

I have treatment resistant depression and have been on more drugs and combos than I can possibly remember. For the most part, nothing has worked for me on any sort of long-term basis.

Today (Nov. 3, 2004) I am adding Mirapex to my medication regimen and I intend to keep a diary through this message board telling the results.

Here is my current regimine, which at this point (about 5 weeks in) is doing little to nothing to relieve my depression:

Cymbalta 60mg in A.M.
Wellbutrin SR 300mg in A.M.
Zyprexa 5mg in P.M.
Ambien (10-20mg) OR Prosom (2-4mg) as needed for sleep

My starting dose with Mirapex is 0.125mg three times daily. I usually adapt to medications very quickly and so I will probably have to increase the dosage; however, I am sticking to this dosage for a minimum of 5 days.

I will update tomorrow after one day on Mirapex. I welcome any info or comments related to using Mirapex to combat depression and especially anhedonia.

Thanks!

I'm interested in Mirapex because I think my problems are partly dopamine related but its hard to get info on it, so I'm always glad to hear experiences.

Thanks so much for taking the time to keep this journal. I will be very interested in the results since I have been potentially thinking of adding Mirapex to my regiman in the future if my current meds to hold out over time.

I have a single question for you whitdaddy: Could you compare the effects of ProSom and Ambien for insomnia. I feel as though ProSom would be better due to its BZD structure, but I'm wondering which one put you out faster, which one puts you out harder, and which one causes the least frequent re-awakenings.

Good luck with that Mirapex bro,
Justin

My body seems to develop tolerance to all meds very quickly. I quickly ramped up to 20mg Ambien to get any effect at all. It takes at least two hours before I even begin to feel drowsy. This amazes my wife because she can take 2.5mg and practically slip into a coma ten minutes later! In my experience, Ambien helps me fall asleep and stay asleep for about 5 to 6 hours. I always seem to wake up in sort of an anxious state whenever I take Ambien the night before.

When I reach the high tolerance on Ambien I switch over to Prosom and take one or two tabs (2-4mg I think). Prosom seems to be more gentle than Ambien in both falling asleep and waking. I usually am able to get 7 or 8 good hours of sleep on Prosom. Unfortunately, I often wake up feeling very groggy.

I would experiment with both and see what works best for you.

As I expected, I really felt nothing at all. It was the first day, after all, and I am starting on a low dose as well.

Still nothing. I am getting some very mild anxiety but I am not sure if that can be correlated with the Mirapex.

ProSom/Ambien

Thanks for the info on ProSom and Ambien, I think when I go to my doc to talk about sleep issues, I'll go with ProSom first and then Ambien if it doesn't work out.

Good luck with the Mirapex. This is of course another drug I'm considering adding on. Thanks for keeping us posted, and sorry to hear about the nausea. From what I read, the nausea goes away pretty quickly.

Thanks,
Justin

One drug that I used for sleep a few months ago was Seroquel. It is extremely effective, but I would not recommend using this drug. It has a very short half-life and I began to experience withdrawal effects during the day unless I took another small dose. It gave me the infamous "brain zaps" that you get when quitting Effexor and Lexapro...not fun at all.

I suggested to my wife that a 12-pack of beer would help me sleep, but that idea didn't go over too well! lol

Still nada, but that is to be expected. I may double my dosage tomorrow and see how that goes.
