Hello,
I can't seem to find the link to the mangesium for depression site that was posted here awhile back. I started 200 mg for two days and now 2 days at 400 mg of MG citrate. It has made my sleep sounder, calmed my teeth grinding and I feel relaxed. I took a walk at noon and enjoyed it immensley. I feel pretty damn good. Anybody else have this happen after taking MG?
Also, I am not near as irritable. Last night I just sat down and my wife yells for help with the computer. Usually, I would grumble, but I just said "sure I'm coming". I am truely perplexed. I thought the first night it was the placebo effect, even though I don't believe in the placebo effect, but I think I may have stumble upon something here from this board.
BTW I take 50 mg nortrypltine
300 mg lithobid/twice daily
22.5 mg tranzene (benzo)

Thanks Ron, that is the one I wanted to look at. I am having great success with MG citrate. I started last Friday with 200 mg and didn't expect much. I awoke tired on Saturday, but no anxiety and just relaxed. Worked out planting trees and thought I would be in for hell, but took 200 MG that night and woke up fine. I upped it to 400 mg for the last 3 days and last night went to a yoga class. I woke up the best in many many months. I just cannot believe the magnesium is working so well. It has calmed my irritability and I think before snapping, lowered anxiety thus lowering my depressive symptoms. I am shocked to say the least. I have tried SAM-E and that green tea stuff L=Thiennain(sp???) and all caused irritability. My thinking is more clear too. I am in shock right now. Because I have become so skeptical about supplments. But, I have tried so many herb like substances not nutritional types so much, except soy lecthin, which was very bad on sleep. I am actually more motivated and just don't float through the day. I am not a big placebo person and it seems like my sleep is deeper. I took 200 mg after lunch yesterday and for an hour as yawning like crazy. I pray this holds out. take care and thanks again.

So what is the recommended dose and form you're supposed to take it in? The correct ratio of manesium to calcium? I get that so confused that I don't take any, because I've heard so many conflicting things. Also if you're prone to, ahem, loose stool, is it out of the question?

Please refer to the link that Ron Hill provided. From that, and what I have asked other people, you don't need to take calcium and MG together. Please read the Mg website, they can explain it much better than I. They ever talk about loose stools too. I take a TCA so loose stools are the least of my worries. I have been suprised at how less anxious I am. But, if I take it with lunch I get tired and bump into things a little. I am going to try taking it at night only. Last night I slept very well. I haven't had a good solid week for a long time and so far so good. I hope it lasts. take care

Hi, I'm, new here and trying to get used to this. I have taken Magnesium supplements at night and it helps me sleep. I also noticed less depression and felt more awake. As far as social phobia, it helped a little.
Nice to meet you,
Pam

I'm new here too, and yes, I have had great results with magnesium -- taking a lot of it and other dietary changes has cured my depression. I say that with the utmost amazement! I started a new thread about this before I saw your post: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20030329/msgs/214008.html
Since I've been taking magnesium, I feel so EASED -- physically and psychologically -- that everyone else seems very cranky and dulled to me. :) I feel like handing out bottles of it on the street! ;)
I simply haven't felt this good since I was a kid. I e-mailed George Eby about his site, "Rapid Recovery From Severe, Stress-Induced Depression Using Magnesium", http://www.coldcure.com/html/dep.html, and told him he is a genius and that he saved my life. :)
(Anyone newly trying this, please note that site for the recommended kinds of magnesium and other ESSENTIAL info.)

I've read George Eby's site. What exactly are you taking, how much, how often, and how long did it take before you felt MARVELOUS? Thanks for sharing this information.
God Bless

Basically, I felt marvelous within days, taking 1,000 mg of Carlson's magnesium glycinate in divided doses with meals throughout the day. I've made many other dietary adjustments also. If you try it, I'd advise really familiarizing yourself with the info on Eby's site as so far, I have found it all to be useful and accurate. I was eating a lot of calcium rich foods before, for instance, and I think that for me right now (perhaps not in the future) calcium is as he describes it there, an excitotoxin. I found this out by having yogurt for breakfast two days in a row, thinking of the probiotic aspect of that food and forgetting all about the calcium. I felt noticeably "darker" after those two mornings. I quit eating yogurt and felt better again.
It feels to me now that magnesium was the absolute key first step to lift me out of that depression hell, but to sustain being in the new place, I have to be very careful about other "ingestibles" too. Good luck to you. :)
