WE shall see if the experts in Doctor Bobs "tips" are correct? Some say that Cytomel is a great augmenting agent. at least Its mild, I dont feel any side effects.!
Wish me luck, Im very upset by this endless "tribulation". (dose is 10 mcgs of Cytomel)

FYI--my endocrinologist reccomends splitting daily dose of cytomel into two doses equally spaced.

Lucky! That is what I want, or just 5mcg. I think it would help my anxiety a lot. But my doctor is hemming and hawing and ordering more blood tests. I'm very sad by all this waiting. :(

I think adding Cytomel is an excellent idea for augmentation. It has a short half-life, so my endo prescribed it AM and PM. For me, it's 5 mcg in the morning and 2.5 in the evening- in addition to .05 mg synthroid in the AM. Just another simple but smart thing to do, along with fish oil and B vitamins!

Its very subtile,,Just think how small 5 mcgs. is.
You are just augementing the ammount of T-3 (cytomel) in the brain, its one possible choice of augmentation. are you going to try and get some?

When my pdoc first prescribed cytomel, my TSH was "within normal limits", although it was on the edge (4.something) and my pdoc diagnosed it as "subclinical", and he cited accounts of cytomel helping to augment even when not out of the "normal" range.
It is important, though, to have several thyroid tests done, not just TSH.
3.6 may be in the "normal range" but may not be normal for you. A couple of years ago, some articles came out saying that having a TSH of over 2 was highly predictive of later hypothyroid problems. For me, I did not start feeling better until my TSH was down to less than 1, but that was under the care of a very good endocrinologist. It is different for everyone, although many doctors go by the statistical norms of .5-5, and pay little attention to how the patient feels. It is a good idea to get other tests along with the TSH test--see the "thyroid and depression" folder at PB tips (link at top of main PB page) for more info.

> my TSH is 3.6 . norms are 0.5-5.That's about what mine is too. Normal TSH is supposedly near 1.5 and so 3.6 could mean that the thyroid is starting to go. Other tests you could have are free T4, free T3, and thyroid antibodies. I just got those done and I'm awaiting those results, if they're creeping away from "normal" I think my doctor will prescribe it. My mom said that her anxiety & depression went away completely when she started taking Cytomel and her TSH was 4. (Her TSH used to be higher, but T4 alone couldn't bring it under 4 and didn't get rid of her anxiety and depression.)
This is the end of the thread.
