Dr Bob, time for some plain talk?

Posted by Partlycloudy on August 20, 2009, at 16:38:09

2 deputies gone now, down to one. Do you think you could be kind enough to tell your community what is going on with your administration? My guess is that you're planning to pull the plug on babble altogether, but speculation isn't my strong point.

Dinah is not gone, not even close, as far as I know. Perhaps you misunderstood her words in the thread above? It is a time-limited thing. Racer is around from time to time - more if she's able and needs arise. Dr, Bob can find and train new deputies, if someone is willing. That happens periodically, as you well know ;-)

And for the record, my needing to not be a deputy now has absolutely nothing to do with closing down Babble at all. It has to do with me and my personal issues - period.

I'm never gotten any indication Dr. Bob has any intentions of shutting down Babble. Zero. None. I'm pretty sure I (I can't recall) or another deputy have come right out and asked not so long ago, and he said, "no."

Hope that helps, until he comes and answers himself :-)

Thanks,10der. This just feels downright strange to me. The way it seems to be coinciding with the closing of boards.

Paranoid me. Thanks for your input.

I really do think it's a pure coincidence. You're right, though, I can see it could look weird, all considered together. I thought of that before I told Dr. Bob what I needed to do, and again before posting this thread. But my alternatives weren't okay with me. I've been back and forth about the deputy thing for a few months (quite a hard decision for me) and I didn't want to wait even longer, just because of coincidental events happening around me. And doing it but not posting really seemed like a lie of omission - not telling the community about my 'change in status.' I was not comfortable with that.

I don't think you're that paranoid. I think asking is usually way better than not asking, too.

Hopefully Dinah and Dr. Bob will post, too.

~~~ I also would like to know the plans for the future, if there are indeed any.
I don't think babble will go away but for me, the babble I knew is already gone... I'm not cottoning to all the self-regulation. I believe it's brought more turmoil and discord making the place just like so many others. I liked it when the boards were monitored more closely.... I'm probably a minority. I see more jabbing and ducking, mostly jabbing, than ever before. Nothing much get nipped in the bud, so to speak. I feel interactions were better when accountibility to the boards was a two fold poster AND adm. responsibility....
Maybe it's what one gets/got used to and a nostalgia of the glory days that hindsight makes better than it actually was... I dunno.
I agree with you.
It seems that the most troubled board is the Administration board. Perhaps it is drama that attracts so many people. I don't know.
My failed attempt to lobby for participation in several threads dedicated to discussing the moderation of the website did yield one commonly held belief of the few who did participate. It was that the length of blocks are too long and that the punishment does not fit the "crime". I found it interesting that some of the most vocal personages who are detractors of the moderation of the website did not choose to participate in the threads I started. Perhaps antagonism works better than deliberation. Perhaps no one likes me. I don't know. No biggie.
Well I like you. I feel that something strange is going on and have for a long time. If you look at the people that are blocked the old not age wise posters account for a lot of the void. Also a lot have gone to facebook and other sites. I posted once before that I kind of smelled a rat and still do. Something is not right. Too many changes after the announcement that students or whatnot would be observing or whatever they do or did. People now come and go and don't stick around. Just my thoughts. Phillipa
Yiah. We gained two great people on the Psychology board in one week, only to see them both disappear the following week. That's a trajedy.
I miss Twinleaf, Fayeroe, Verne, and many others...they've been gone for so long.
They brought a lot of spirit and heart here...void and sadness...that's what I feel.
I hope all of you are doing well if you're reading this. I miss reading your posts.
Gooble the mystery person to me anyway other than blocked new ones Jade, Zana, Floatingbridge, Ihatedmeds, Garnet once in a while. Blocked one that stands out is Chairman MAOI. So many the list goes on and on. Phillipa ps now some of the new ones post now and then. Forgot desolationrower, Parnate 2008, Vincent, Mycoboy.
I know of no rat. While I can't read Dr. Bob's mind, I know of no board changes other than what has already been made clear on Babble by Dr. Bob.
Nor did Dr. Bob ask deputies to leave, and there was no common cause for 10derHeart's situation and my own.
I assure you, had Dr. Bob in any way made me feel unwelcome, I would not be posting politely to him. My abandonment issues run deep. :)
Sometimes stuff happens, and sometimes it happens in unfortunate coincidence.
So it's another perfectly normal day on babble to have just a single deputy after 2 have left within 2 weeks of each other; and an administrator who fails to explain to the rest of the community what's going on.
I understand completely. Business as usual.
In my humble opinion, I feel that so many have left and it has saddened me to the point that I don't often post. I read, but most of the time I just lurk.
I feel like Åva, the babble I used to cherish has eroded to something I don't always recognize. Maybe Phillipa is right, the trouble really vamped up after that announcement of students, then the Twitter thing, and all the unseemly blocks that I feel aren't warranted.
I felt like the Babble I first experience in 2006 is nothing like the Babble of today. that is just my 2 cents.
I found I censor so much of what I want to say that I often just decide why bother?
I remember when I couldn't keep up with all the posts and threads, and now I come back every 10 -14 days and its easy to catch up. I miss all the traffic and posters. I long for those days but I am afraid it is the end of an era. so many friends gone now.
and I too find it disturbing that Dinah and 10derheart both resigned in such a short span.
Does this mean that you're going to be around more Dr. Bob since I know Racer's abilities to be here is or might still be conditional. I hope your ok Racer.
And who can forget Timne...a brief but intriguing visitor.
He came through like a comet blazing across the evening sky.
Definitely controversial, but dazzling and brilliant mind. I really enjoyed reading his posts. During the mid portion of his time here, his posts
were especially intellectually stimulating...Sophie Scholl, Sharia banking, Occam's razor, broken windows theory, freefall, and such...
In the end he got a little "worked-up" and "hot under the collar", unfortunately, but he sure went out with a bang...
I hope he and "his friend" are doing well in their "nation".
And I hope all's well with you, Sig!
Hello Ava
He was such fun. I hadn't laughed so much since zazenducke splashed around and left in a flap.
He must be the only babbler ever to succeed in undoing his registration. I don't imagine he'd be very impressed to hear that, but anyway....
I'm dreading summer. My wife is trying to get me volunteer English teaching in Vietnam. I could be quite good at it if I don't freak out for one reason or another.
Nice to see you here
Sig
What is he to explain? He left it to the deputies involved to comment, I imagine because he felt that that was proper. He thanked 10der for her service. I guess he could explain that he's making himself more available during this time, in case it wasn't evident.
I know Babble is down to one deputy. I feel bad enough about that myself. If I could be a deputy right now, I would. But I can't. I hope that it's very temporary.
10der and I have both stated that there was no common cause for our stepping down.
I find that with Dr. Bob, asking very specific questions improves my chance for an answer. If you're concerned about Babble's moderation during this time, perhaps you could ask him specifically what his thoughts are, including any specific concerns you wish him to cover.
I think I have been specific enough in my stated concerns. I don't think it should be up to either you nor 10der to speak for Dr Bob when I have asked him what his plans are.
But thanks anyway. And I hope you're OK.
It would be nice to know what the doctor's plans are for maintaining Psycho-Babble. I hope he has no plans to retire his website any time soon.
