I wouldn't worry too much. I remember feeling dead tired on the Abilify after taking it at night for the first time, and a couple of days later I had to switch it to AM dosing because it all of a sudden became very activating.
It works quickly, unlike other antipsychotics. The clinical researcher claims he noticed signifigant effects in psychotics in 7-10 days. Packages take longer to arrive! =)
If you get side effects, yeah, they'll probably mostly come in a couple of weeks afterward, especially restlessness. But restlessness, you just need to get a proper dose of Klonopin or Neurontin or something your doc favors for that. And anxiety, benzo, if that comes. Insomnia, if you get it (I didn't)... benzo or Ambien.
Anyway, you'd be surprised... it can actually motivate you to do work, focus, and bring you out of some sort of possible depression that kills your focus. Think of it this way, it's only a good thing from here, and this drug is the fastest to work. And side effects are almost always controllable with a creative doc's adding on of another drug.
Just be sure to call your doc in-between appts. if you get side-effects, no reason to endure them until you see her again. But if I were you, I'd try it. It motivates and energizes you, which I think is cool since I have ADD.
Sadly, I took it a year ago just for 2 weeks, when the restlessness came on. I took Neurontin, which gave me immediate relief, but didn't tell my doc that 'cause I didn't like Neurontin's feeling on me.... I think my life this school year might have been better if I just stuck with Abilify. If you're worried about side effects during finals, remember you can always not take it for a day or two if it's a major issue. You'll have a good idea of how you will feel within the first week side-effect wise, but if you do develop restlessness in the second week then your pdoc can call in something to the pharmacy for you that'll bring immediate relief. Hopefully, a benzo, especially if you also get insomnia or anxiety together.
