That NZ nurses would not have any choices at all about where they worked: They were trained in NZ and they were required to work in NZ. Except that if we could get studnets doing the work while paying the University or if we could get undocumented immigrants doing the work while not being paid at all well then...

Well then Australia can take our nurses then. And pay them. If it wants to be inefficient like that. Good riddance.

Our ideology was... That the nurses we train would be required to remain in NZ and work here -- on the understanding that no other country would offer to pay them.
So we could keep them with wages lower than every other country and tough. They can work for us for minimum wages. That's it. That's what they signed up for. They knew the wages they could expect when they chose that degree program. When they applied. Right?
