the latest iteration:

(i see that these are starting to be 'over-used' which is a way of saying the garbage garbage garbage output is starting to be used in association with the terms so that the... utility... of the label is lost. in the next iteration of psychological warfare that is the arms race...)

for posterity:

GASLIGHTING
is a colloquialism that is defined as making someone question their reality.
The term is also used informally to describe someone (a "gaslighter") who persistently puts forth a false narrative which leads another person or a group of people to doubt their own perceptions to the extent they become disoriented and distressed. This dynamic is generally only possible when the audience is vulnerable such as in an unequal power relationship or when the audience is fearful of the losses associated with challenging the false narrative.

The term is derived from the title of the play and films entitled "Gas Light" which as stories of a husband who uses trickery to convince his wife that she is insane in order to steal from her.

"gaslighting" once referred to extreme manipulation that could induce mental illness or justify committment to a psychiatric institution...

They conclude that not only the husbands but also male therapists may contribute to distress through mislabelling the women's reactions and through continuation of certain stereotypical attitudes that reflect negatively on the wife... Therapists may contribute to the victims distress through mislabelling the victims reactions... The 'gaslighting' behaviors of the spouse provide a recipe for so called 'nervous breakdowns' and suicide...

... cautions clinicians about the unintentional abuse of patients when using interrogation techniques and other methods of covert control in psychotherapy and analysis as these methods can subtly coerce patients rather than respect and genuinely help them...

a 1997 case study reviewed a case of a paranoid psychosis... induced by the staff of the institution where the patient was a resident.

Gaslighting may occur in parent-child relationships, with either... attempting to lie to the other to undermine perceptions...

OUP warns that some psychologists are not encouraged by the increased international awareness of the dangerousness of gaslighting as overuse to the term could dilute its potency and downplay the serious consequences of such abuse.

..

Gaslighting or the 'gaslight tango' is distinct in that:
- one partner is consistently listening and considering the other partners perspective and
- one partner is constantaly negating the others perception insisting they are wrong or telling them that their reaction is crazy or disfunctional

... gaslighting comes directly from blending modern communications marketing and advertising techniques with long standing methods of propaganda. they were simply waiting to be discovered by those with sufficient psychological make up and ambition to use them.

NARCISSISTIC WORD SALAD

refers to a type of purposefully confusing speech using circular reasoning logical fallacies and other rhetorical devices in order to disorient or manipulate another person.
